Barrios Edges Boschiero in PBC on ESPN Main Event
Premier Boxing Champions held another event on ESPN
Saturday night, with the winner of the featured bout inching ever
closer to a shot at the IBF junior lightweight title. Mario Barrios
took on Devis Boschiero for the right to claim the sanctioning
body’s number-two ranking for the belt held by Jose Pedraza.
Barrios (16-0, 8 KOs) used his massive reach advantage to keep the shorter Boschiero at bay throughout the allotted 12 rounds. With Boschiero unable to get inside, Barrios wasn’t willing to take many chances, leaving for a rather aesthetically unpleasing fight, save for a knockdown of Boschiero (39-5-1, 21 KOs) in the final stanza. In the end, Barrios coasted to an easy win, scoring the unanimous decision via tallies of 120-107 on all three cards.
In the co-feature, undefeated prospect Eddie Ramirez out-slugged Jessie Roman (20-3, 9 KOs) for 10 exciting rounds to earn a unanimous decision as well. Neither junior welterweight was dropped in the fracas but they traded some serious leather throughout, though Ramirez (14-0, 9 KOs) was the sharper of the two. The three judges heavily favored him with margins of 99-91 (twice) and 98-92.
