Boxing: Travis Peterkin vs. Lenin Castillo Headlines PBC on ESPN Undercard
An already stacked card of fistic action just got a little deeper,
as Premier Boxing Champions announced a showdown between
unbeaten light heavyweights will anchor the PBC on ESPN undercard on Aug. 1.
Brooklyn local Travis Peterkin (15-0, seven KOs) will put his unblemished ledger on the line against Lenin Castillo (12-0, seven KOs) in the featured undercard bout at Barclays Center, which precedes the ballyhooed matchup between pound-for-pound entrant Danny Garcia and Paulie Malignaggi.
An intriguing matchup between middleweight titleholder Daniel Jacobs and former world champ Sergio Mora will serve as the evening’s
co-feature.
Peterkin has feasted on various cruiserweights throughout the New York area and has looked solid with each passing fight. Yet to be tested by a fighter hovering around the upper reaches of the division, “Notorious” expects a win over a Castillo will gain him entrance into some of the world titles’ rankings. Peterkin last fought in April, when he retired Donta Woods after five rounds.
Castillo, who hails from the Dominican Republic, has taken on similar opposition and has fought a few times in the States, as well as many times in his homeland. Castillo represented his country in the 2008 Olympics; he last fought in May, when he toppled Timothy Hall Jr. over six rounds.
The rest of the undercard will feature rising contenders Rafael Vazquez (15-1, 12 KOs), Adam Kownacki (10-0, nine KOs) and Heather Hardy (13-0, two KOs) in action as well.
