Ishe Smith to Face Frank Galarza in PBC on Bounce TV Main Event Sept. 16
A pivotal 10-round junior middleweight showdown will anchor the
next edition of Premier Boxing Champion’s takeover of Bounce TV on
Sep. 16. Former world champion Ishe Smith will take on Frank
Galarza in the headliner of the event, which will occur at The
Chelsea inside the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.
Smith (28-8, 12 KOs) captured the IBF super welterweight title in 2013 when he edged Cornelius Bundrage over 12 rounds, but “Sugar Shay” lost it to Carlos Molina in his first defense. He came up short for the WBA version of the championship in 2014 against Erislandy Lara and has gone 2-1 in his last three. The Las Vegan knows he can ill-afford a loss at this point in his career if he’s to ever get another crack at a world title.
“I'm the type to always stay in good condition so I will be ready
to get in on fight night,” said Smith. “I'm deep into training and
I'm planning on delivering a great hard fight for all the fans to
enjoy. I'm focused on this fight but my goal is to get the world
title back.”
Galarza (17-1-2, 11 KOs) is coming off a surprising sixth-round TKO loss to Jarrett Hurd last November. The Brooklynite was among the rising young contenders in the division and he knows he needs to get back on track against the cagey veteran.
“I feel great and I'm ready for a chance to redeem myself,” said Galarza. “I know Ishe is an experienced fighter but this is a shot for me to get back to the top level. I can't wait to show the boxing world what I am made of.”
The televised coverage on Bounce TV begins at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT with a 154-pound showdown between Chris Pearson (14-1, 10 KOs) and Justin DeLoach (15-1, 8 KOs).
