Knockout Artist David Lemieux to Fight Marcos Reyes on Canelo-Chavez Jr. Card

It didn’t take long for Canadian knockout machine David Lemieux to land his next fight. Fresh off a sensational win on HBO, Lemieux has already signed up to fight Marcos Reyes on the undercard of the massive Saul “Canelo” Alvarez versus Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. event in Las Vegas on May 6.

Lemieux, one of the hardest punchers in the sport of boxing, scored the front-runner for knockout of the year a few weeks back when he flattened Curtis Stevens. Lemieux obliterated Stevens with a single shot to the jaw during an exchange and Stevens, not exactly a slouch in power department himself, lay motionless on the canvas under the bottom rope for a few minutes before finally coming to.

Lemieux (37-3, 33 KOs) has been on a tear since losing to Gennady Golovkin in October 2015. The former IBF middleweight champion has coveted another crack at “GGG” ever since and he’s been laying waste to his opposition every time out and the boxing world has taken notice.

“I'm thankful to have the opportunity of being part of this event during the Cinco de Mayo celebrations,” Lemieux said. “I think I was able to send a clear message on March 11 with my performance against Stevens and I intend to do the same on May 6. I want to make sure that everyone understands that David Lemieux is making his way towards the top and that he intends to stay there.”

Reyes (34-4, 25 KOs) is coming off a thrilling second-round knockout of Diego Rivera almost two weeks ago. Eager to get back into the ring as soon as possible as well, the Chihuahua, Mexico native is hoping to use Lemieux as a springboard to what will eventually be his first-ever world title fight. Reyes has scooped up a handful of regional titles at 154 and 160 pounds and he is ready to use his heritage’s undying passion to boost him up against Lemieux.

“I know everyone is talking about the Lemieux knockout, but I’m ready to take him out,” Reyes said. “With my Mexican fans supporting me on Cinco de Mayo weekend, I’m ready to turn Lemieux’s lights out.”

Also slated for the main card is a featherweight matchup between former U.S. Olympian Joseph “JoJo” Diaz Jr. (23-0, 13 KOs) and Manuel Avila (22-0, 8 KOs) and an intriguing 140-pound scrum where former world champ Lucas Matthysse (37-4, 34 KOs) will oppose Emmanuel Taylor (20-4, 14 KOs).

T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas will serve as the host location for the HBO Pay-Per-View event. The action will be televised live beginning at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT.
