Late Sub Ugas Stops Lara in Second on PBC on FS1 Main Event

When Mario Barrios was removed from the latest edition of PBC on FS1’s “Toe-To-Toe Tuesdays” card, foe Nelson Lara probably should have pulled out as well. But Lara opted to go ahead and fight late replacement opponent Yordenis Ugas and it cost him in the welterweight showdown.

Ugas (19-3, 9 KOs) stormed out of his corner in the main event Tuesday night and unloaded a furious barrage of punches to Lara’s body, with left hooks upstairs mixed in. Though he clipped Ugas with a looping overhand right, Lara was defensive throughout the opening round as he dealt with salvo after salvo and he never was about to get his offense going.

After Lara (17-8-4, 9 KOs) was lacerated around his left eye from a right uppercut through the guard early in the second, he was sent to the canvas from a follow-up flurry. He struggled to his feet and wanted to continue, but referee Bill Clancy opted to call the fight due to the severity of the cut, officially ending the bout just 53 ticks into the second.

In the co-main event inside the Fitz Tunica Casino and Hotel in Tunica, Miss., super welterweight contender Levan Ghvamichava dominated Oscar Molina for 10 rounds, winning a lopsided unanimous decision for his effort. Ghvamichava utilized a superb jab and higher punch rate to control the pace of the fight and won via tallies of 98-92 (twice) and 97-93 to improve to 18-3-1 with 13 KOs. Molina fell to 13-2 with 10 KOs.

Former IBF heavyweight titleholder Charles Martin (24-1-1, 22 KOs) scored a second-round TKO over Byron Polley (30-21-1, 13 KOs). It was Martin’s first fight since losing to reigning champion Anthony Joshua a year ago.
