Former UFC light heavyweight champion Chuck
Liddell and rising WEC featherweight Chad Mendes
will appear at the “Fight for Wrestling” event this Saturday at the
Mott Gym on the campus of their alma mater, California Polytechnic
State University in San Luis Obispo, Calif.
The show benefits the college’s NCAA Div. I wrestling program, which has churned out 110 All-American wrestlers, according to its press release.
Featured bouts will include a women’s matchup between local
standout Casey Noland and Jenny
Trujillo, as well as a tilt between veteran Cruz Gomez and
Eddie
Hoch.
Johnny Hackleman Jr., son of Liddell’s longtime trainer and “The Pit” founder John Hackleman, will also compete on the card against Aaron Hamilton.
UFC veterans Joe Stevenson and Kevin Randleman, a four-time All-American for Ohio State University, are also expected to appear at the event.
All profits raised from the event will go to the wrestling program headed up by 2009-2010 PAC-10 coach of the year John Azevedo and two-time NCAA wrestling champion Mark Perry.
