Manny Pacquiao-Jessie Vargas Undercard Finalized
Top Rank officially announced the finalized main undercard to the
Manny Pacquiao-Jessie Vargas pay-per-view event in November. The
event will be held at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas and the
longtime promotion revealed three bouts that will support the WBO
welterweight championship main event.
WBO junior featherweight champ Nonito Donaire (37-3, 24 KOs) will defend his title against local fighter Jessie Magdaleno (23-0, 17 KOs) in the co-feature while WBO featherweight king Oscar Valdez (21-0, 18 KOs) will risk his unbeaten record and belt against Japan’s Hiroshige Osawa (30-3-4, 19 KOs). Two-time Chinese Olympic gold medalist Zou Shiming (8-1, 2 KOs) will oppose Thailand’s Kwanpichit Onesongchaigym (39-1-2, 24 KOs) over 12 rounds at flyweight rematch.
The bouts will be officially announced at a press conference next week in Los Angeles.
Pacquiao was originally supposed to fight on HBO PPV but the cable giant and Top Rank have been feuding over what HBO deemed a lackluster main event not worthy of pay-per-view. HBO reportedly was cautious of putting the fight on pay-per-view so close to the mega showdown between world-recognized light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev and Andre Ward, which is slated for Nov. 19, also in Vegas and on HBO PPV. The event will likely be available on pay-per-view through Top Rank.
