Mendes Likens Fighting Aldo in Brazil to Rocky-Drago
Chad
Mendes, on “The Savage
Dog Show,” discussing what it will be like to fight Jose Aldo in
Brazil:
“Obviously I would have liked to have fought him here, in Vegas, but I think for more than anything just so my family and friends could come and watch. I knew that if it was going to be in Brazil, it’s going to be hard for a lot of my friends and family to go. … Being in Brazil and fighting in front of the Brazilian fans, I know I’m going to get booed a ton. It’s something that just comes with fighting in his hometown. I’ve embraced it and I expect it, and it’s not something that I’m going to worry about. I’m going to do what I’ve trained to do. I’m kind of treating this like the Rocky movie when he goes to Russia and fights the Russian. He just goes in there and beats the guy in his own backyard. What better way to prove that I’m the best 145-pound fighter in the world than going into his backyard and beating him there?”
