PBC on Fox Weigh-in Results: Berto, Ortiz On Point
The StubHub Center in Carson, California, has become one of the
hottest spots in the Southwest to watch live boxing and the trend
will continue Saturday night when Andre Berto and Victor Ortiz will
renew an old rivalry via Premier
Boxing Champions on Fox.
The action will come live on Fox starting at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT. And thankfully for all parties involved, the weigh-ins on Friday afternoon went off without a hitch, greenlighting the entire event.
Berto (30-4, 23 KOs) captured the WBC welterweight title in 2008
and defended it five times before losing it to Ortiz three years
later in one of the best fights of the year. Both men hit the deck
twice in the fight but Ortiz came out ahead on points. Berto is
looking for revenge against the Californian and hopes to get back
on the winning track since losing to all-time great Floyd
Mayweather Jr. last September.
Berto climbed aboard the official scale on Friday and nailed it, officially weighing in at 146.8 pounds for the ballyhooed rematch.
Ortiz (31-5-2, 24 KOs) at one point seemed to be on his way out of boxing. He had dropped three in a row, all by stoppage, but after taking nearly a year off, he bounced back with a knockout of Manuel Perez. He followed that up with a stoppage of Gilberto Sanchez Leon and he is looking for another crack at regaining a world title at 147 pounds by toppling Berto.
Ortiz looked equally as fit and ready as his foe and, like the Haitian-American, he came in under the limit: Victor officially weighed 146.8 pounds as well.
Edwin Rodriguez (177) vs. Thomas Williams Jr. (176.8)
Fernando Montiel (125.6) vs. Jorge Lara (124.4)
