Wilky Campfort vs. Ronaldo Montes
Round 1
Montes tags him with a glancing left hook to start the round. Campfort goes with the jab several times. Wilky lands a nice right uppercut on the inside before backing away. Montes fires off a pair of left hooks to the body. Short, lead left to the head drops Campfort an he’s hurt. He gets up and is shaky. Montes quickly goes with shots to the head and body. Campfort is covering up, looking to clear his head. Campfort comes alive late, which makes for some terrific action. They7 trade hooks and uppercuts with 20 seconds left. Campfort closes the round strongly as he is refreshed. 10-8 Montes.Round 2
They both come out firing jabs, Campfort tags him with a nice overhand right and he’s stunned. Wilky goes a right uppercut and Montes drops to the knees and gloves. He’s up and looks a little wobbly. Campfort is applying a ton of pressure. Montes storms back with a barrage to the body and head. Nice uppercut form Montes but Wilky continues to stalk him. Hard right to the jaw by Campfort but the Colombian takes it well. Short overhand right to the face drops Montes with a minute left. He’s up and swinging away. Hard left hook to the body by Campfort. They trade some serious leather late. Montes backs himself into a corner, but Campfort can’t keep him there. Huge left hook to the jaw rocks Montes. He’s about to go with about 10 seconds left. Round 1
Lora is moving away from his foe right off the bat. Lubin slowly walks after him from a southpaw stance. Lora moves side-to-side, tossing out a right jabs. Lubin pops him with a right hook but Lora isn’t fazed. A straight left from Lubin through the guard catches Lora’s attention, who counters with a left hook. Huge left hook to the body from Lubin, followed by a left to the head and then a right. Overhand left to the cranium from the Florida fighter and Lora looks to be in peril. Lubin chases him down but Lora’s experience allows him to shake it off and regroup. Straight left to the mouth by Lubin, but he’s countered by a right cross and a one-two from the Mexican. Big straight left/right hook by Lubin at the bell. 10-9 Lubin.Round 2
Jab/straight left to the head by Lubin to start the frame. Lora seems out-gunned in this one, but he continues to try and force his will onto the 19-year old. Hard uppercuts to the body from Lubin followed by a right hook up top. Right hook/overhand left by Lubin snaps Lora’s head back violently. The Mexican is tougher than leather, though, and comes back with a left hook upstairs. Lubin returns to the body and then a massive right hook to the ear. Hard counter right hook upstairs from Lubin, who is very relaxed in his aggressive output. They trade hard shots downstairs, but Lubin’s punches have much more power to them. Sizzling combo to the head rocks Lora badly and he slumps into the ropes. Referee Frank Santore rules him down in the ropes and issues a standing eight count just before the bell. 10-8 Lubin.Round 3
Lora backs away early as Lubin is all over him, Hard shots to the head and body from the American. Lora clinches when he can, but Lubin continues to rock him. Lora starts to come alive with a minute left, firing off shots from all angles. He tags the kid a few times but Lubin walks right through them. Lubin rakes a series of nasty shots to the body before going upstairs. Another big round for Lubin 10-9.Round 4
Lubin pops his foe with a few jabs early. Lora nails him with a few right uppercuts but Lubin comes right back with a huge left to the face. Lora stumbles backward but he’s able to regroup and swing away. Another sizzling straight left through the guard from Erickson. Huge right hook rocks Lora with 50 seconds left. He falls into the ropes and Lubin is all over him. He fires off a lethal; combo to the head and body, followed by a few uppercuts. Lora somehow stays up and escapes to his right. Lubin chases him down but can’t put him away before the round ends. 10-9 Lubin.Round 5
Lubin starts off with a few jabs before clocking with a powerful overhand left to the jaw. Lora backs up again and Lubin tears into his body some more. Lubin rips him with a left uppercut and then a few more shots to the body. Lora continues to trudge forth, unable to keep the young man off him. Lora presses his forehead into Lubin’s and swings away at his body. Lubin loves it and returns the favor. Hard right hook caps off a three-punch combo from Lubin late. Another right hook up top for Lubin at the bell. 10-9 Lubin.Round 6
Lora comes right after Lubin early, but he meets the same resistance as usual. Lubin tears into his body and then his head, but Lora takes it well. Lora eats a hard right hook. Lora seems rocked as he backs into the ropes. Lubin closes the gap and pounds away on his foe from all angles. Lora is staggered by a scorching left hand. A flurry along the ropes and Lora’s ready to go. Santore looks closely and is ready to stop it. Lora’s corner jumps onto the ring apron, trying to throw in the towel. Round 1
The much taller James comes out slowly, using his jab. It’s a measured pace early as neither man is committing to anything just yet. Abreu is having a hard time figuring out the distance as he tries to get to the body. Nice double jab by James. Abreu misses a left hook and he’s tagged by an overhand right. Abreu is warned at the midway point for pressing down on James’ head. Hard lead right by James is clean to the face, but Abreu is unfazed. Abreu gets inside and rips to the body, but James counters with a vicious left hook to the liver. They trade jabs at the bell. 10-9 James.Round 2
Hard overhand right by Abreu right away, but he’s warned for it. James sticks out a few stiff jabs, keeping the Dominican away. Left hook to the body by James just before he dodges a wild overhand right. Triple jab from Jamal and Abreu still can’t figure out how to get past it. They exchange powerful hooks to the body before Abreu presses him into the corner. They take turns ripping into each other’s body. James opts to stay in the corner and slug away. Finally, he escapes the trap and nails Abreu with a slick straight right hand to the jaw. They clinch again and Abreu is warned to headlocking his taller foe. The ref tells him that’s his last warning. 10-9 James.Round 3
Referee Telis Assimenios scolds Abreu in between rounds. James goes with the jab early. Abreu snags a few shots to the body before going upstairs. Nice overhand right behind the ear rubberizes James’ legs, but he holds on to quickly clear his head. Abreu slugs away to the body with the left a few times, but James absorbs them. James returns the fire with a nasty left to the body and overhand right. Abreu slams down with another clubbing right to the top of the head. James backs off and then doubles up the left hook. Decent left to the gut by Abreu late, followed by an uppercut. James pops him with his a counter right, but he’s rocked by a loopy right hand just before the bell. Good round. 10-9 James.Round 4
Abreu storms out of his corner and swarms him with a flurry. James backs off and then resets the action with the jab. James backs up but he’s clubbed by an overhand right, sending him to the canvas. He’s up and seems okay and goes right back to the jab. The commentary team doesn’t think it was a knockdown but replays will reveal the truth. Abreu isn’t pressing the issue just yet because James isn’t hurt. Jamal sticks out several jabs before tagging him with a sharp right cross. James goes down again during an exchange in the clinch, but it’s correctly ruled a slip. The action slows down late, but they are clinching quite a bit more toward the end of the frame. 10-8 Abreu.Round 5
Replays show that James lost his balance and tripped over his foe’s feet, but he was nailed by the right. It’s a debatable call, but the correct one. They quickly come out and trade rights the head. James goes with the jab and then left hook, but Abreu keeps coming at him. Abreu misses a wild left hook but James is too far away to counter him. Lead right by James, followed a one-two. Abreu dives in and clinches, trying to land bombs from the inside. Hard right uppercut by Abreu and then he slugs away with a barrage to the head and body. James slinks out to his right, but Abreu chases him down and ties him up. Abreu continues to press the lankier man into the ropes, slugging to the body. James is looking tired now and he’s bleeding from the nose. 10-9 Abreu.Round 6
Abreu charges in and again slugs to the body. James backs up and pops him with the jab, but Abreu nails him with that chopping right hand. Left hook to the head, followed by a blistering right/left downstairs. Jamal backs off and gets his jab going again. Abreu misses a wild left hook and is countered by the jab. Abreu is relentless with the pressure. A monster left hook rocks Abreu late. Abreu stumbles backward and James is all over him. A flurry sends him to the canvas. He’s up and hurt, but he’s allowed to go on. James closes in with a barrage but Abreu is able to survive the round. 10-8 James.Round 7
Abreu looks clear-headed and comes right after his foe early. James obliges and swings away. Lead right to the noggin by James, but Abreu storms back with a flurry. A massive overhand right to the head staggers James, who quickly backs up. Abreu is all over him, but a double right from Jamal stops Abreu in his tracks. They trade blows and wind up in the corner, where James lands a thudding right to the head. Abreu gets inside and pounds away at the body. They trade some heavy leather briefly with a minute left. Hard overhand right by James and Abreu staggers back. He is hurt badly and James stalks him down. Abreu looks out on his feet, but he’s clinching to stay upright. They exchange power shots late and Abreu is saved by the bell. Great round. 10-9 James.Round 8
James jabs several times to the not-as-aggressive Dominican. Abreu backs off, still looking a little hazy early. James tosses out a few jabs but misses with a zinger of a right. Abreu is on his bike completely as he eats jabs and then a sweeping right hand. Nice left hook by James, who has seized complete control of the fight. Abreu clinches at the midway point, trying to gather himself. Check hook by Abreu with 45 seconds left but there’s nothing on it. James walks his man down, setting up the right with the jab. Lunging right to the head by Abreu late, but it’s too little too late in this round. 10-9 James.Round 9
The doctors check on Abreu just before the round starts due to the blood coming from it. He’s okay and the fight goes on. James is aggressive early, landing the jab several times. Abreu tries to keep him off, but his punches are telegraphed. Abreu continues to back up, nowhere near as assertive as he was earlier in the fight. Jamal continues to rifle out that jab, nullifying Abreu’s random spurts of offense. They clinch a few times. With a minute left, a sweeping left to the body from Abreu is wicked and James backs off. He looks bothered by it and Abreu quickly tracks him. They clinch a few times, but Abreu suddenly has a new life. The Dominican pops him with a nifty straight right just before the bell. Very close round. 10-9 Abreu.Round 10
We enter the final round of the fight and it’s anybody’s guess how this fight is scored. James is likely ahead on points but you never know. Abreu is desperate out of the gate, slugging away at the head and body. James stays back with the jab before blasting his foe with a right the face. Abreu is down, but it’s ruled a slip. James goes back to the jab as he back up, keeping the hard-charging slugger away. Nice straight right by James with 90 seconds left. Abreu needs to let his hands go right now and go for broke. James is moving well behind the jab. Abreu continues to come forward, but he can’t get inside. Huge overhand right by Abreu barely misses and he flops face-first into the ropes.
