Omar Douglas vs. Braulio Santos

Round 1
Douglas fires off a jab but he’s quickly countered by a left hook. Santos follows that up with a right, but it’s blocked. They are both fairly aggressive early. Douglas rakes his foe with a nasty left hook to the body and Santos doubles over. He backs away and Douglas closes the gap. They clinch and Douglas can’t add to the pain yet. Santos falls to his knees during another clinch but it’s ruled a slip/push. Douglas goes back to the left hook and the Puerto Rican is on his toes. Finally, Santos returns the fire with a right to the body. Santos misses with a wild left hook and at the same time he’s blasted by a short left to the head, dropping him. He is hurt badly but he gets up at eight. He’s wobbly but allowed to go on. Douglas is all over him with body shots. Santos survives the round, but barely. 10-8 Douglas.

Round 2
Santos lands a stiff jab immediately but Douglas comes right at him, backing him up to the ropes. Douglas is relentless with the pressure but he’s not going wild. Santos wants none of it as he continuously backs away. Nice jab to the head/right to the body from Douglas. Hard right/left to the body by “Super O” before he lands a solid left to the face. Santos swings with a wild left hook but he’s dropped by a monster left in return. Santos isn’t as hurt as he was in the first and checks with his corner before getting up. Douglas lost his mouthpiece during the ensuing exchange, which gives Santos precious seconds to recover. Santos paws with a passive jab before absorbing another vicious left to the gut. Santos remains on his bike, trying everything in his power not to engage. 10-8 Douglas.

Round 3
Douglas lands a jab but misses the right to the head. Santos is a little more assertive early, going with his jab. Douglas lands a glancing left hook before eating a right. They clinch a few times and Santos is warned for pressing down on Omar’s head. Douglas throws seven straight left hooks to the head and body, but Santos takes them all and hooks back with him. Nice lead right by Santos to the cheek, arguably his best punch of the fight. Douglas closes the gap and crushes his foe’s body with another left hook and Santos doubles over. Douglas clubs him with a hammer strike to the back of the head but referee Ernie Sharif doesn’t give Santos any time to recover. He warns Douglas for it, though. Decent action late. Douglas loses his mouthpiece again just before the bell. 10-9 Douglas.

Round 4
Santos fires off a few nice jabs at the start. They trade blows and Santos lands a hard left hook to the head. Nice action ensues and Santos dares him to keep coming. Douglas lands a nice left to the body and head but Santos comes right back with a right to the dome. Santos remains on his bike a little, but he’s much more confident and comfortable. Douglas takes another left hook with a minute left. Omar doubles up the jab and then misses a powerful right to the stomach. Double left hook to the body seems to hurt Santos late just before Douglas clubs him again on the top of the head. Sharif doesn’t warn him. 10-9 Douglas.

Round 5
Douglas tags him with a glancing left hook after taking a right early in the frame. Douglas blasts his foe with a triple left to the body. Santos bends down and Douglas again hits him behind the head. Sharif takes a point from him this time. Santos moves away and paws with the jab. Douglas is starting to grow frustrated in there and Santos lands another hard left hook. They clinch a few more times and Douglas complains to Sharif for the holding. Santos ducks under a double left hook to the head and then he follows that with a leaping left hook. Douglas walks right through it and then sticks him with a few jabs. 9-9.

Round 6
Douglas storms out his corner to hunt Santos down, but the Puerto Rican sticks with his jab. Santos changes gears and gets inside his opponent, digging a few shots to the ribs before landing a left to the temple. Douglas is unfazed and continues to press the issues. They trade blows and down goes Santos, but he clearly slipped. Sharif correctly rules it a slip. Though Omar doesn’t look tired, he certainly is slowing down a little and is throwing fewer punches. Douglas is bleeding from a cut on his scalp somewhere above his forehead. Douglas’ dreadlocks are coming loose and one keep flopping down into his face, which is pestering him. Good exchanges late and it’s clearly Santos’ best round. 10-9 Santos.

Round 7
Douglas comes out with the jab, but Santos is boxing well with his movement and pesky jabs. They exchange some thudding hooks to the body a minute in. Hard overhand right by Santos as he backs into the ropes, but Douglas walks right through it. Omar digs a left to the body and it elicits a wild exchange. Santos nails him very low and Sharif quickly takes a point away. Douglas throws three hooks to the body and then a left/right to the head. Santos fires back with a right but his left misses. Douglas rolls his head with a sweeping left hook from Santos very late. Douglas has resumed control of the fight. 10-8 Douglas.

Round 8
Douglas jabs early but backs off, possibly trying to lure him into a trap. Santos doesn’t budge but he does catch his foe with a left hook when Omar comes back at him. Very little action early on and it seems like Douglas is taking the round off. Santos backs off continually, trying to establish his jab. They trade jabs with a minute left before Douglas digs a left to the body. Santos is starting to look a bit weary late but Douglas doesn’t pressure him. Santos lands a nice left hook late but that’s countered by a three-punch combo to the cranium. 10-9 Douglas.

Round 9
Douglas cracks him with a jab and then a left hook, but Santos quickly clinches. They get back together where Douglas pops him with an uppercut. Santos takes it and then answers with a left hook to the head. Santos is on his bike quite a bit as Douglas pressure him, going to the head and body. Santos isn’t willing to engage, causing Douglas to chase him around the ring. Douglas continues to punch to the body and then cracks him with a left hook up top. Santos is hit with a left and he stumbles across the ring. His glove touches but he clearly tripped over Douglas’ feet. No knockdown. Douglas finishes the frame with a few more fists to the ribs. 10-9 Douglas.

Round 10
Santos needs a knockout in order to win this one. He is way behind on the cards. Douglas doesn’t need to do anything, really, but he comes out swinging to the head and body anyway. Santos digs deep and clubs away at his opponent’s midsection, but Omar returns the favor. Santos lands a few jabs before being forced to swallow and overhand right. With 90 seconds left, Santos needs to go for broke. Santos backs away, though, likely realizing he can’t hurt Douglas. “Super O” is still relentless, swarming Santos to the head and body. Douglas talks some trash with 30 seconds left, demanding Santos to fight. Santos backs off with 10 seconds left. Douglas forces an exchange at the bell. All Douglas. 10-9 Douglas (98-89 Douglas).

Milton Santiago vs. Alvaro Ortiz

Round 1
Santiago sticks out a few jabs, backing up Ortiz. Nice double left hook/right cross by Santiago, who then follows it up with a double left to the body. Ortiz seems unwilling to engage early as he backs up and claps his gloves together a few times. Overhand right/left uppercut by Santiago, who is all over his foe. Vicious left/right to the body by the local fighter. Ortiz is sketchy, throwing desperate punches from way outside. Santiago turns southpaw for a moment before switching back. Counter left hook behind a right uppercut from Santiago. Ortiz misses a few wild shots after he walks into a left uppercut. All Santiago 10-9 Santiago.

Round 2
Santiago triples up the jab and then dishes out a straight right. There’s some redness and swelling under Ortiz’ right eye. Ortiz walks like a zombie a right cross/left uppercut but his chin is holding up well. They clinch and Ortiz opens up with an array of punches from all angles, though Santiago blocks and dodges virtually every one of them. Ortiz is frustrated, trying to land something as Santiago is moving beautifully with his jab. Ortiz is trying to make it brawl now, but Santiago is too slick and too accurate with his counters. 10-9 Santiago.

Round 3
Ortiz comes forward in a plodding fashion, allowing Santiago to pepper him with a plethora of shots from everywhere. Santiago isn’t using his jab much at all, but he pops his foe with a nice straight right through the guard. Double left to the body and head by Milton. With a minute left, the action has slowed considerably. Santiago rips him with a pair of uppercuts and then a left to the body. Check hook from Santiago late in the frame, but it’s mostly an arm punch; no power behind it. 10-9 Santiago.

Round 4
Ortiz comes out quickly but he misses with a wild left hook and overhand right. Santiago backs off and sticks out a few meager jabs before being tied up. Ortiz gets inside a few times and tries to maul the young fighter, but nothing comes from it. Santiago backs off and throws a few lefts and rights with no zip on them. Ortiz continues to try and get inside but Santiago deflects the pressure. Ortiz finally pins the local kid on the ropes and plugs away at his body. Short left/right to the chin of Santiago and he’s briefly rocked. Decent exchange late, where Santiago clips him with a nifty uppercut on the inside. 10-9 Santiago.

Round 5
Ortiz storms out of his corner and pressures his foe, but Santiago is moving away. Double left hook by Milton, but Ortiz is unfazed. They clinch a few times and Ortiz digs to the body. Ortiz continues to bum rush Santiago, but Milton is moving to his sides, disallowing it. Ortiz throws punches from everywhere, but they are slow and telegraphed. Santiago shoe-shines his foe but his left hook to the head misses. With about 15 seconds left, Santiago lands a double left hook to the stomach. Decent exchange at the bell. 10-9 Santiago.

Round 6
Ortiz clearly needs a knockout in order to win because he’s lost every round thus far. Ortiz plugs away at the body but Santiago doesn’t seem to mind. Ortiz dives right back in and forces an exchange but Santiago ties him up. Santiago is on his bike almost exclusively at the midway point. A couple uppercuts from Santiago with a minute left. Another. Ortiz barely blinks when he’s hit and continues to trudge forth. With 30 seconds left, Santiago backs off completely, knowing he’s won. They trade some moderate leather at the bell. 10-9 Santiago (60-54 Santiago).

Sammy Vasquez vs. Jose Lopez

Round 1
They come out of their corners and paw with the jab. Lopez jabs a few times to the body before tasting a right hook. Nice short uppercut backs Lopez up. Vasquez stays back, looking to counter. Nice straight left by Sammy and Lopez scowls at him. Vasquez throws a few jabs to keep a safe distance. Lopez ducks under a right hook but his counter right misses by the length of Scottie Pippen’s arm. Lopez finally cracks Sammy with a left hook but the local hero takes it well. Nice lead left to the mouth by Vasquez. Lopez keeps pawing with the jab and then eats a right hook near the bell. 10-9 Vasquez.

Round 2
Vasquez goes low with a right and left and then follows it up with a right to the head. Lopez is swinging wildly and missing everything. Vasquez keeps popping him with jabs and rights, but Lopez isn’t hurt by any of it. Lopez continues to charge after him but he can’t pin his foe down at all. Hard left to the head by Lopez but Vasquez nails him with a left of his own. Good exchange with 100 seconds left. Vasquez is tagged cleanly again, but he answers with a left and right of his own. Double right to the grill by Lopez but he’s countered by another left upstairs. Big right hand by Lopez late but Sammy counters with a right hook of his own. Very good action. 10-9 Vasquez

Round 3
Lopez jabs quite a bit to the body and head, but Sammy is just far enough to make them miss. Sammy paws with a few jabs but he’s caught by a left hook. Vasquez nails him with a right hook and then a straight left. Vasquez tags him to the body and Lopez goes down, but it’s correctly ruled a slip. Loopy overhand right by Lopez misses, allowing Sammy to counter with a left upstairs. Stiff southpaw jab by Vasquez snaps Lopez’ head back. Right/left to the head by Vasquez with 45 seconds left. Sammy is giving him all sorts of angles and it’s confusing the Mexican brawler. Nice jab by Sammy late. 10-9 Vasquez.

Round 4
Lopez charges in right away, but he walks into a flurry of shots to the head and body. Vasquez backs off and goes back to the jab. Lead left by Vasquez is clean, but Lopez is unfazed. Lopez dives in and swings with a wild left and right, but Sammy blocks them. Lopez pins Vasquez into the ropes and digs to the body, but Vasquez is blocking them. They trade uppercuts but Vasquez is able to nail him with a left hook. Another and Lopez stumbles back. Big left and right hook by Sammy and Lopez is ready to go. Lopez is backing off and he’s unsteady before clinching. Right hook by Vasquez with a dozen ticks left. Lopez has a heck of a chin and survives the onslaught. 10-8 Vasquez.

Round 5
jab/right hook by Vasquez right off the bat. Left/right by Vasquez and Lopez staggers back. Vasquez tees off on him and drills him with a flurry and Lopez is down. He’s hurt and barely beats the count. Vasquez thinks the fight is over but his celebration is cut short. The fight goes on but Lopez is ready to go any second. Vasquez slams a furious combo into him with lefts and rights. Finally a right hook drops Lopez onto his gloves and knees, prompting referee Gary Rosato to stop the fight.
