ShoBox ‘The New Generation’ Weigh-ins: Tabiti & Tapia Cleared, Nearly Brawl
Showtime’s long-running boxing series ShoBox: The New Generation
returns to Las Vegas Friday night with another edition of fistic
fireworks. In a matchup of two undefeated, highly-rated
cruiserweight contenders, Andrew Tabiti (12-0, 11 KOs) will lock
horns with Keith Tapia (16-0, 11 KOs) in the main event.
The action will go down at Sam’s Town Live and will be aired on Showtime starting at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT, but the fight nearly started a day early. After the two cruiserweights weighed in -- Tabiti at 193.8 pounds and Tapia at 194.8 -- the two almost came to blows during the customary face-off.
After words were exchanged, Tabiti shoved his adversary, eliciting a mad rush of chaos. Though both combatants continued to trash talk and try to get at each other, order was restored after a few minutes and cooler heads prevailed.
Michael Hunter (193.8) vs. Isiah Thomas (200)
Ronald Gavril (166.5) vs. Juan Camilo Novoa (166.5)
Sanjarbek Rakhmanov (142.8) vs. Alfonso Olvera (141.5)
