Showtime Unveils Complete Spring 2017 Boxing Schedule

Showtime continues to unleash quality boxing telecasts to fight fans on near-weekly basis and on Tuesday, the cable giant unveiled its full roster of major events through the spring. The anchor event of the bunch is the massive heavyweight world championship between Anthony Joshua and Wladimir Klitschko, but that blockbuster event is just the tip of the proverbial iceberg.

Everything begins on April 22 when former welterweight world champions Andre Berto (31-4, 24 KOs) and Shawn Porter (26-2, 16 KOs) collide. The two will lock horns at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., with the co-feature pitting Jermell Charlo (28-0, 13 KOs) defending his WBC super welterweight title against Charles Hatley (26-1-1, 18 KOs). Showtime Extreme will televise Amanda Serrano (31-1-1, 23 KOs as she puts her WBO bantamweight belt on the line against Dahiana Santana (35-8, 14 KOs). The action will begin on Showtime Extreme at 7:30 p.m. ET/4:30 p.m. PT.

The following week is the massive showdown between IBF heavyweight king Joshua (18-0, 18 KOs) against former unified heavyweight monarch Klitschko (64-4, 53 KOs). The two will collide at Wembley Stadium in London, England. Showtime will broadcast the fight live at 4:15 p.m. ET/1:15 p.m. PT.

Showtime will take a few weeks off before returning on May 20 as IBF super featherweight champ Gervonta Davis (17-0, 16 KOs) will take on challenger Liam Walsh (21-0, 14 KOs). Cooper Box Arena in London will serve as the host venue, though exact broadcast details in America are unclear at this time.

Later that same night at a time that also needs to be made official, Showtime will dish out a tripleheader. The main event will see Gary Russell Jr. (21-1, 16 KOs) defend his WBC featherweight throne versus Oscar Escandon (25-2, 17 KOs). Andre Dirrell (25-2, 16 KOs) will also look to retain his WBC super welterweight strap against Jose Uzcategui (26-1, 22 KOs) in the co-feature while Rances Barthelemy (25-0, 16 KOs) will oppose Kiryl Relikh (21-1, 19 KOs). The MGM National Harbor in Baltimore, Md., will host the action.

May 27 is a date diehard boxing fans have had circled for several weeks as Bramall Lane Football Ground in Sheffield, England, is the spot where Kell Brook (36-1, 25 KOs) will aim to keep his IBF welterweight title against Errol Spence Jr. (21-0, 19 KOs). A co-feature and live broadcast time will be announced in the coming days.

Adonis Stevenson (28-1, 23 KOs) will put his WBC light heavyweight crown on the line against Andrzej Fonfara (29-4, 17 KOs) in what should be as exciting as their initial encounter back in 2014; both men hit the deck in that fight. The co-headline bout of the night will be Eleider Alvarez (22-0, 11 KOs) against Jean Pascal (31-4-1, 18 KOs), also at light heavyweight. A venue and start time have not been announced.

Finally, ShoBox: The New Generation returns on June 9 as Joel Diaz Jr. (23-0, 19 KOs) will go toe-to-toe with Abel Ramos (17-2-2, 12 KOs) in a 10-round super lightweight duel. Turning Stone Resort and Casino in Verona, N.Y., will host the action, which will go live at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT. Additional bouts on the marquee will be announced in the coming weeks.

Showtime also announced that Adrien Broner and WBC lightweight world champ Mikey Garcia will compete in separate events in the summer, though no dates or opponents were revealed.
