Smith, Galahad, McDonnell Added to Golovkin vs. Brook Card
After much speculation and rampant rumors within the boxing world,
a portion of the main undercard for next month’s alluring Gennady
Golovkin versus Kell Brook event has been announced.
Promotion officials for the event revealed on Friday morning that undefeated super middleweight contender Callum Smith has been tacked onto the marquee, though an opponent hasn’t yet been determined. Smith (20-0, 15 KOs) is fresh off a win over Cesar Hernan Reynoso in May and is awaiting a crack at WBC 168-pound champ Badou Jack.
Also,
BoxingScene.com reported that prospects Kid Galahad and Gavin
McDonnell will fight on the card in separate bouts, both scheduled
for eight rounds.
Golovkin, the WBC, WBA and IBF middleweight champion, will oppose Brook, who possesses the IBF welterweight strap in one of the most intriguing matchups of the year. Lee Haskins will defend his IBF bantamweight title against Stuart Hall in a rematch while Charlie Edwards will take on Johnriel Casimero for the IBF flyweight crown to round out the main card.
The action will be held at London’s famed O2 Arena on Sep. 10. HBO will televise the fisticuffs beginning at 5:30 p.m. ET/2:30 p.m. PT.
