By The Numbers: Eduard Folayang

No fighter on the active One Championship roster has made more appearances with the Singapore-based promotion than Eduard Folayang—a testament to his persistence, durability and expertise.

Folayang has pieced together a 12-9 record in 21 outings under the One Championship banner, capturing the organization’s lightweight crown on two different occasions. Despite his many successes, a late-career tailspin has turned him into something a forgotten man stuck somewhere between the ground floor and the penthouse. Folayang last appeared at One on TNT 4 in April, when his under-the-radar trilogy with the great Shinya Aoki concluded with his being submitted via armbar in the first round. It was his third consecutive defeat.

As the Lakay MMA rep awaits word on his next assignment from One Championship matchmakers, a look at some of the numbers that have accompanied him to this point:

37: Years of age for Folayang, who was born on Nov. 22, 1983 in Baguio, Philippines.

7: Folayang wins by knockout or technical knockout, accounting for 32% of his career total (22). His list of victims includes the aforementioned Aoki, who succumbed to third-round punches from “Landslide” at One Championship “Defending Honor” on Nov. 11, 2016. Folayang owns one other win by submission and 14 more by decision.

5: Fighters, including Folayang, who have captured the undisputed One Championship lightweight crown. Aoki (twice), Kotetsu Boku, Martin Nguyen and Christian Lee are the others. Aoki has enjoyed the longest single reign to date at 1,316 days.

492: Days spent by Folayang as One Championship lightweight titleholder. He held the championship from Nov. 11, 2016 to Nov. 10, 2017 and again from Nov. 23, 2018 to March 31, 2019.

4: Promotions in which Folayang has competed as a mixed martial artist. The Filipino standout has gone 12-9 in One Championship, 6-1 in Universal Reality Combat Championship, 3-0 in Martial Combat and 1-1 in Gorilla Warfare. Folayang has captured titles in One Championship, URCC and Martial Combat.

11: Victories for Folayang in his first 12 appearances as a professional. An eight-second knockout loss to Jon Tuck at Gorilla Warfare 3 in November 2009 was the only blemish.

.772: Cumulative winning percentage between the nine men—Aoki (twice), Nguyen, Tuck, Antonio Caruso, Pieter Buist, Eddie Alvarez, Timofey Nastyukhin, Kamal Shalorus, Lowen Tynanes and Ole Laursen—who have defeated Folayang. They sport a combined record of 166-47-2.

3: Sub-minute finishes on the Folayang resume. He cut down Jerry Legaspi with punches and kicks to the body 15 seconds into their URCC 13 encounter on Nov. 22, 2008, dispatched Jerome Norita with punches 52 seconds into their Gorilla Warfare 2 pairing on March 28, 2009 and struck Wadson Teixeira into submission with elbows 56 seconds into their URCC Cebu 7 affair on Jan. 13, 2012.
