By The Numbers: UFC on ABC 2

Marvin Vettori didn’t score many style points at UFC on ABC 2, but he nonetheless keeps on racking up wins in the middleweight division.

Vettori relied on a dominant wrestling game to cruise to a unanimous verdict against Kevin Holland in Saturday’s headliner at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. “The Italian Dream” followed the blueprint laid out by Derek Brunson some three weeks prior to attack Holland’s main weakness, and he etched himself in the UFC record books in the process. Here is a by-the-numbers look at UFC on ABC 2, with statistics courtesy of UFCStats.com.

11: Takedowns landed in 17 attempts by Vettori, a new UFC middleweight record. “The Italian Dream” grounded Holland once in Round 1, twice in Round 2, three times in Round 3, twice in Round 4 and three times in Round 5.

20:01: Control time logged by Vettori in the 25-minute contest. Holland, meanwhile, had just three seconds of control time in defeat.

17: Takedowns surrendered by Holland in his last two UFC bouts, five-round decision losses to Vettori and Derek Brunson.

5: Consecutive victories for Vettori, the second-longest active winning streak in the middleweight division behind only reigning champion Israel Adesanya.

152: Total strikes landed by Vettori. Holland, meanwhile, landed 138 total strikes. However, Holland did hold a 37-to-24 advantage in significant strikes landed.

8: Consecutive featherweight victories for Arnold Allen, who outpointed Sodiq Yusuff in the evening’s featherweight co-main event. That moves him past reigning champion Alexander Volkanovski and into sole possession of the longest active winning streak in the UFC at 145 pounds.

79: Total strikes landed by Yusuff. By comparison, Allen landed 26. Were it not for a knockdown in Round 1 for Allen and then another near knockdown in the second frame, Yusuff might’ve gotten the nod from the cageside judges.

26: Significant strike deficit for Allen, the fifth-largest deficit ever for a featherweight decision winner. Allen’s 21 significant strikes landed rank as the second lowest for a decision-winning fighter in UFC competition thus far in 2021.

4: Submission victories in UFC competition for Mackenzie Dern, tying her with Gillian Robertson for the most in women’s history. That figure also ties her with Jessica Andrade and Rose Namajunas for the most finishes at 115 pounds. Dern tapped out Nina Nunes with an armbar in the opening round of their strawweight showdown.

4: Consecutive victories for Dern, which ties her with Carla Esparza for the fourth-longest active winning streak in the UFC strawweight division behind Xioanan Yan (six), Weili Zhang (five) and Tatiana Suarez (five).

68: Significant strike advantage for Daniel Rodriguez in a lopsided decision victory against Mike Perry at welterweight. “D-Rod” got stronger as the bout progressed, outlanding his foe 33 to 21 in Round 1, 43 to 16 in Round 2 and 53 to 24 in Round 3.

90: Significant head strikes, out of 129 overall, landed by Rodriguez, who battered Perry’s nose and opened a cut near his left eye. By comparison, Perry landed 27 significant head strikes.

37: UFC appearances for Jim Miller, surpassing Donald Cerrone for the most in promotion history at any weight class. Miller dropped a unanimous verdict to Joe Solecki in a preliminary lightweight bout.

9:37: Total control time by Solecki, the most allowed by Miller since Beneil Dariush logged 11:59 against the New Jersey native 18 fights ago in 2015.

29: Significant strikes by which Mateusz Gamrot outlanded Scott Holtzman in their lightweight bout en route to a knockout victory 1:22 into Round 2. The former KSW champ outlanded his foe 26 to 8 in Round 1 and 13 to 2 in Round 2.

236: Combined significant strikes landed by John Makdessi (124) and Ignacio Bahamondes (112) in a preliminary lightweight clash. Makdessi outlanded his foe 43 to 35 in Round 2 and 45 to 40 in Round 3 to earn a split-decision victory.

.530: Significant striking accuracy for Makdessi, who landed 124 of 232 attempts. Bahamondes was less precise, landing 112 of 312 attempts — a 35 percent clip.

1,680: Days since Jarjis Danho’s last Octagon appearance, a majority draw against Cristian Colombo at UFC Fight Night 93 on Sept. 3, 2016. “Man Mountain” made a triumphant return on Saturday with a first-round knockout of Yorgan De Castro in a preliminary heavyweight affair.

16: Unofficial media scorecards, of the 18 tracked by MMADecisions.com, that scored the bantamweight clash between Jordan Griffin and Luis Saldana in favor of Griffin. However all three cageside judges — Adalaide Byrd, Derek Cleary and Junichiro Kamijo — submitted 29-28 scorecards for Saldana.

8: Takedowns landed in nine attempts by Da Un Jung in a clear-cut unanimous verdict over William Knight at light heavyweight. In his previous three Octagon appearances, Jung failed to land a single takedown.

12:04: Total control time logged by Jung in the 15-minute affair. Knight, meanwhile, had just nine seconds of control in the fight.
