With his recent victory over Jim Miller, Charles Oliveira not only avenged an early Ultimate Fighting Championship loss, but also extended his record for most submission finishes with the promotion. However, if he wishes to re-enter the top 10, he needs to get rid of a surging prospect in David Teymur.

On Feb. 2, the two crafty featherweights will lock horns at the Centro de Formacao Olimpica do Nordeste in Fortaleza, Brazil. As “Do Bronx” prepares to keep his win streak going, let’s take a look at some of the numbers that define his professional career.

6: Fights in 2008. Oliveira’s first year as a professional fighter was also his busiest. That’s mainly because he joined two tournaments that year, Predador FC 9: Welterweight Grand Prix and Korea Fight 1. In between those competitions, he had one bout at Kawai Arena 1. His second most active year was in 2010 as he graced the cage a total of five times.

1: Bout in Jungle Fight, one of Brazil’s more prominent fight promotions. At Jungle Fight 12: Warriors 2, he defeated Carlos Soares by inverted triangle armbar. With the victory, Oliveira kept his undefeated record through seven bouts.

12: Fights in regional events before the UFC took notice. At that time, Oliveira had yet to taste defeat and only one of his wins came via decision. With such an impressive feat, he earned the approval of UFC executives. “Do Bronx” was pitted against fellow prospect, Darren Elkins, in his Octagon debut.

41: Seconds to impress American fans at UFC on Versus 2. Elkins was able to take him down early, but Oliveira managed to turn things around by attempting a triangle choke that was later transitioned into an armbar, which forced his opponent to tap. He followed it up with another spectacular submission victory, and just like that, a new contender was born.

4: Consecutive wins is his longest streak inside the UFC. After losing to Frankie Edgar at UFC 162, he bounced back by winning four straight against tough competition. He defeated Andy Ogle, Hatsu Hioki, Jeremy Stephens and Nik Lentz. During that stretch, he earned one Fight of the Night and three Performance of the Night bonuses.

445: Significant strikes landed in the UFC. Oliveira is primarily known for his aggressive submissions but he has been working a lot on his standup and it shows in his sharper, more mature approach to the striking game. In all, he has attempted 895 significant strikes inside the Octagon.

26: Takedowns scored inside the Octagon. Oliveira has good takedowns, which have help given way to his submissions. He scored four in his most recent bout, although it was in a losing effort to Anthony Pettis.

17: Submission wins to his credit. Submissions will always be his bread and butter. Each of his last three matches ended with his opponent tapping out.
