It’s been a long time coming for Charles Oliveira.

Twenty-eight fights into his promotional tenure, the Brazilian became a champion for the first time, as he rallied past Michael Chandler for a second-round technical knockout victory in the UFC 262 headliner at the Toyota Center in Houston. Oliveira had to survive a few precarious moments in the opening stanza, but he maintained his composure, dropped Chandler with a left hook in Round 2 and swarmed with punches until the former Bellator MMA champ was saved by referee Dan Miragliotta 19 seconds into the period.

11: Lightweight champions in promotion history after Oliveira claimed the belt vacated by Khabib Nurmagomedov earlier this year.

17: Finishes in UFC competition for Oliveira, which surpasses Donald Cerrone for the most in the history of the Las Vegas-based promotion.

2: Knockdowns landed by Oliveira, giving him six total in his UFC tenure. “Do Bronx” had never landed more than a single knockdown in a fight prior to facing Chandler on Saturday.

28: Signifcant strikes landed by Chandler in Round 1, when he twice appeared to have Oliveira reeling after landing heavy punches. By comparison, Oliveira landed 10 signficant strikes in the opening frame.

2:27: Control time in Round 1 for Chandler, who didn’t hestitate to enter the guard of the UFC’s all-time submission leader and attack with ground-and-pound.

.820: Significant striking accuracy for Oliveira in Round 2. The Brazilian landed 14 of 17 significant strikes during a precise finishing sequence that ended after just 19 seconds.

15: Lightweight triumphs in UFC competition for Beneil Dariush, tying him with Rafael dos Anjos, Joe Lauzon and Francisco Trinaldo for the fourth most in the history of the division. Only Jim Miller (19), Donald Cerrone (17) and Gleison Tibau (16) have won more at 155 pounds. The Kings MMA representative earned a dominant decision triumph over Tony Ferguson in the evening’s co-main event.

7: Consecutive victories for Dariush, tying him with Islam Makhachev for the second-longest active winning streak in the division behind Oliveira (nine).

12:15: Total control time for Dariush in the 15-minute bout. Ferguson, meanwhile, logged just five seconds of control in the matchup.

3: Takedowns landed in six attempts for Dariush, who also held a 76-to-37 edge in total strikes landed.

7: Flyweight triumphs for Katlyn Chookagian, tying her with reigning champion Valentina Shevchenko for the most in the history of the division. Chookagian defeated Viviane Araujo in a featured 125-pound matchup on Saturday.

10: Unofficial media scorecards, of the 17 tracked by MMADecisions.com, that scored the bout for Araujo. However, judges Chris Lee, Jeff Rexroad and Marcos Rosales saw things differently, and that result in a unanimous verdict for “Blonde Fighter.”

127: Significant strikes landed by Chookagian. By comparison, Araujo landed 89 significant strikes. Chookagian also held a 135-to-129 edge in total strikes landed.

98: Significant strikes landed by Edson Barboza in a third-round knockout victory over Shane Burgos at featherweight. That title ranks as the second most of the Brazilian’s 25-bout promotional tenure behind only a 126-significant strike effort against Dan Hooker in December 2018. By comparison, Burgos landed 80 significant strikes.

33: Significant leg strikes for Barboza. Burgos, meanwhile, landed 15 significant strikes to the legs.

37: Professional fights for Ronaldo Souza before suffering a submission loss. The eight-time World Jiu-Jitsu champion and 2005 ADCC gold medalist had his arm snapped by Andre Muniz 3:59 into the opening stanza of their middleweight showdown.

20: Takedowns attempted by Mike Grundy in a split-decision loss to Lando Vannata in a preliminary featherweight matchup. The Englishman landed just three of those attempts for a 15-percent success rate.

48: Significant strikes by which Vannata outlanded Grundy. “Groovy” landed 40 significant strikes to the head, 27 to the body and 13 to the legs in victory.

26: Significant strikes landed by Jordan Wright in a 64-second blitz of Jamie Pickett at middleweight. Pickett, meanwhile, landed just four significant strikes in defeat.

7: Triangle armbar submissions in UFC history. Lee joined a select group by tapping out Antonina Shevchenko with the manuever 4:52 into the second stanza of their preliminary flyweight clash.

3: Submissions attempted by Lee in the bout. “KGB” had three combined submission attempts in her first six Octagon appearances.

4: Occasions in UFC history in which two opposing fighters shared a birthday after Priscila Cachoeira and Gina Mazany squared off on Saturday night, according to MMADecisions.com. Both flyweights were born on Aug. 19, 1988, but it was Cachoeira who emerged with a second-round technical knockout victory.

180: Combined significant strikes landed by Tucker Lutz (99) and Kevin Aguilar (81) in a preliminary featherweight matchup. Lutz, who won a unanimous decision in his promotional debut, outlanded his foe 33 to 25 in Round 1, 34 to 28 in Round 2 and 32 to 28 in Round 3.
