It was a tumultuous week, but Deiveson Figueiredo can finally call himself the undisputed flyweight champion of the world.

The Brazilian authored a dominant performance in the UFC Fight Night 172 headliner, dropping Joseph Benavidez multiple times before choking his opponent unconscious 4:48 into the opening stanza of their bout at Flash Forum in Abu Dhabi on Saturday night. Figueiredo joins Demetrious Johnson and Henry Cejudo as the third undisputed 125-pound king in UFC history.

6: Finishes for Figueiredo, tying him with Benavidez for the second most in the history of the UFC’s flyweight division. Only Johnson (seven) has more.

35: Significant strikes landed by Figueiredo in less than five minutes. That includes two official knockdowns, and he appeared to at least buckle Benavidez a third time. The Brazilian landed 87 percent of his significant strikes during the beatdown. Benavidez, meanwhile, landed 18 significant strikes in defeat.

23: Significant ground strikes for Figueiredo, who bloodied his foe with elbows from top position to set up the fight-ending submission.

4: Submission attempts by Figueiredo. A dazed Benavidez impressively defended the first three rear-naked choke tries by his opponent before succumbing to the fourth and final attempt near the end of Round 1.

0-4: Record for Benavidez in UFC title fights. The former Team Alpha Male standout lost twice to Figueiredo and twice to Demetrious Johnson in 125-pound championship bouts.

2: UFC events to feature two leg lock submissions. On Saturday, Jack Hermansson tapped Kelvin Gastelum with a heel hook in the middleweight co-main event, and Ariane Lipski finished Luana Carolina with a kneebar in a featured flyweight bout. Previously, UFC 228 featured kneebar wins by Aljamain Sterling and Zabit Magomedsharipov in September 2018.

.620: Significant striking accuracy for Rafael Fiziev in a decision triumph over Marc Diakiese at lightweight. Fiziev landed 78 of 124 attempts in an efficient performance, while Diakiese landed 68 of 148 significant strikes — a 45 percent clip.

33: Significant body strikes landed by Fiziev, most notably numerous thudding kicks to the liver. By comparison, Diakiese landed 19 body strikes in defeat.

15: Takedowns attempted by Askar Askarov against Alexandre Pantoja in a featured flyweight tilt. Though the Dagestani only landed two of those, his consistent pressure propelled him to a three-round verdict over the Brazilian.

1:28: Time of Ariane Lipski’s first-round kneebar of Luana Carolina, making it the second-fastest submission in UFC women’s flyweight history.

2: Leglock submission victories in UFC women’s history. With her finish of Carolina, Lipski joined Mackenzie Dern as the only female fighters to own such a victory in the Octagon. Dern dispatched Hannah Cifers with a kneebar on May 30.

136: Total strikes landed by Grant Dawson in a dominant three-round verdict over Nad Narimani in a 150-pound catchweight clash. The Dana White’s Contender Series alum also landed two of six takedowns, passed guard on six occasions and attempted one submission in his fourth Octagon triumph.

15: Career submission wins among 17 professional triumphs for Joel Alvarez. The Spaniard added Joseph Duffy to his list of victims with a first-round guillotine choke in a preliminary lightweight contest.

8: Takedowns landed in 19 attempts for Brett Johns in a three-round verdict over Montel Jackson at bantamweight. Johns landed at least two takedowns in each frame to negate the reach advantage of his opponent. However, Jackson did hold a 26-to-11 advantage in significant strikes and an 80-to-30 edge in total strikes in the bout.

1: Triangle choke submissions in UFC competition thus far in 2020 after Amir Albazi used the maneuver to tap Malcolm Gordon to win his Octagon debut on Saturday. There were seven triangle choke submissions in 2019, six in 2018, two in 2017 and three in 2016.

91: Significant strikes landed by Arman Tsaryukan in a three-round verdict over Davi Ramos at lightweight. The Russian prospect outlanded his foe 22 to 3 in Round 1, 34 to 15 in Round 2 and 35 to 15 in Round 3.

113: Total strikes by which Sergey Spivak outlanded Carlos Felipe in the third round of their heavyweight bout. “The Polar Bear” grounded and mounted his foe in the final stanza to put an emphatic stamp on a majority decision triumph.
