Max Holloway just took a significant step toward getting back to the top of the featherweight mountain.

Holloway earned a hard-fought unanimous decision triumph against Yair Rodriguez in the UFC Fight Night 197 main event at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas on Saturday night. After losing back-to-back title bouts against Alexander Volkanovski, “Blessed” has rebounded to post two straight impressive triumphs in 2021. The latest saw him hold off a hard-charging Rodriguez, who was making his first promotional appearance in more than two years. Was it enough to earn the Hawaiian a trilogy against Volkanovski? Only time will tell.

2,848: Career significant strikes landed by Holloway, the most in UFC history.

3,061: Total strikes for Holloway, also a UFC record. Holloway is also the first person in the organization to reach the 3,000 mark for total strikes landed.

66: Significant body strikes for Holloway. Rodriguez, meanwhile, landed 24.

57: Significant leg strikes landed by Rodriguez. Holloway connected with 35 leg strikes.

43: Combined significant strikes in the clinch (22) and on the ground (21) for Holloway. Rodriguez landed a combined seven significant strikes in those areas.

3: Takedowns landed in five attempts for Holloway, a UFC career high. His previous best of two takedowns came in a victory against Anthony Pettis at UFC 206. The Hawaiian star has landed a takedown in UFC competition only five times during his promotional tenure.

6:25:47: Total Octagon time for Holloway, No. 6 among all fighters in the promotion. By spending 25 minutes in the cage on Saturday, “Blessed” moved past Clay Guida, Michael Bisping and Jim Miller on the all-time list.

8: Bouts ending via KO or TKO at UFC Fight Night 197, tying it with five other events for the most such finishes in promotional history.

0:32: Time of Marcos Rogerio de Lima’s first-round TKO stoppage of Ben Rothwell in the heavyweight co-main event. Entering Saturday’s bout, the Brazilian’s average UFC fight time of 5:19 was the fifth shortest among active fighters.

14: Career first-round finishes for de Lima. That includes six triumphs in UFC competition.

4,403: Days since Rothwell’s last KO/TKO defeat, a first-round technical knockout loss to future heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez at UFC 104 on Oct. 24, 2009.

227: Total strikes landed by Felicia Spencer in a lopsided unanimous decision triumph against “The Ultimate Fighter 28” winner Leah Letson. Letson, who was returning for her first bout since November 2018, landed just 69 total strikes in defeat.

11:58: Total control time for Spencer, who spent the majority of the fight in the clinch or in top position. The former Invicta FC title holder also landed four of 13 takedown attempts.

5: Submission attempts by Miguel Baeza in the opening round of his welterweight clash against Kalinn Williams. Baeza tried multiple leg locks against his opponent but was unable to force a tapout. That failure came back to haunt Baeza when he suffered a TKO defeat 1:02 into Round 3.

131: Significant strikes attempted by Williams, more than twice as many as Baeza (56). That volume paid off, as Williams outlanded his adversary by a 49-to-31 count in significant strikes and scored the fight’s only knockdown.

1: KO/TKO defeat in 22 professional appearances for Julio Arce, who suffered his first such loss at the hands of Yadong Song in a featured middleweight affair. Song stunned his foe with a head kick and sealed the deal with a barrage of power punches 1:35 into the second round.

4: Consecutive finishes for Joel Alvarez in UFC competition following his first-round technical knockout victory against Thiago Moises in a preliminary lightweight encounter. That ties him with four others for the second-longest finishing streak in the UFC behind Francis Ngannou (five). In addition to Moises, the Spanish fighter has earned stoppage wins over Alexander Yakovlev, Joseph Duffy and Danilo Belluardo.

19: Finishes in 19 professional appearances for Alvarez, who earned his third KO/TKO victory on Saturday. “El Fenomeno” also owns 16 triumphs by way of submission.

84: Significant strikes landed by Andrea Lee in two full rounds against Cynthia Calvillo. By comparison, Calvillo landed 47. Lee earned her second consecutive victory when Calvillo’s corner halted the flyweight contest before the third round.

1-3: Record for Calvillo since moving from strawweight to flyweight. After a victory against Jessica Eye in her 125-pound debut, Calvillo has dropped successive fights to Kaitlyn Chookagian, Jessica Andrade and Lee.

17: Significant body strikes landed by Sean Woodson in less than five minutes of action against Collin Anglin. Woodson ultimately outlanded his adversary by a 50-to-8 count in significant strikes overall to earn a TKO victory at the 4:30 mark of Round 1.

67: Total strikes by which Cortney Casey outlanded Liana Jojua in a clear-cut unanimous decision victory at flyweight. Casey also outlanded her foe by 55 significant strikes.

3: Stoppage wins via elbows in professional competition for Da Un Jung, who secured his first such triumph in the Octagon 3:04 into the opening round against Kennedy Nzechukwu in a preliminary middleweight matchup.
