Goulet Captures Quick Opening-Round Win

VICTORIAVILLE, Quebec, March 17 — The first stop on TKO's newest series of events entitled TKO MMA Tourney 2007 event primarily focused on local talent as many Victoriaville natives, including Jonathan Goulet (Pictures), who was in the main event of the evening against Lethbridge's Jesse Bongfeldt, decorated the card.

At the opening bell the two fighters engaged with Bongfeldt securing a takedown and working on bettering his positioning while peppering Goulet with punches early on. After a Bongfeldt attempt at a guillotine, Goulet lifted his opponent off the mat and slammed him to the ground and began his assault.

An onslaught of punches and elbows from the mount would spell the beginning of the end for Bongfeldt, as the referee was forced to call a halt to the action preventing Bongfeldt from taking any further damage. Goulet took the win with strikes at 3:52 of the first round.

"Sensei" Stephane Dube (Pictures) looked to continue his winning ways against the hard-nosed Jacob McDonald. From start to finish this one entertained fans in attendance with a vast array of flashy spinning back-fists and kicks.

The first two rounds were almost a carbon copy of one another with Dube doing the stalking and McDonald looking to do his own damage. A failed Dube takedown attempt found him tied up along the cage for quite some time as he tried to free himself until the referee finally stepped in to restart the action. While both fighters landed their fair share of strikes, Dube looked to be landing the more telling blows through rounds one and two.

The third and final round saw McDonald land a vicious inside low leg kick to the right knee of Dube, who was noticeably wincing. Immediately, Dube went for takedown after takedown, securing each one of them and working from the top position to pound away on McDonald until the final bell sounded ending the bout. Stephane Dube (Pictures) earns the victory by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-26).

Dave Pariseau (Pictures) and Jason St. Louis (Pictures) faced off in a lightweight super-fight. With both fighters coming off losses at TKO 28 in Montreal last month, they were looking to get back in the win column. Throughout the three-round bout, Pariseau held the definitive edge on the feet by landing better strikes that forced St. Louis to take the fight to the ground. The two traded submission attempts constantly scrambling in and out of precarious positions.

Midway through the third round St. Louis leapt in for a "superman" punch only to be met with a hard overhand right that snapped his head back and sent him flailing to the mat. Pariseau pounced and tried in vain to finish the fight with strikes, but the resilient St. Louis showed no signs of quitting and continued to try to latch a submission. But time was not on his side.

Pariseau was rewarded the unanimous decision victory, pushing his record to 6-3-1 while St. Louis falls to 11-10.

After a three-year layoff, Sean Pierson made his triumphant return to MMA with a lopsided TKO win over Chester Post (Pictures). After a brief flurry from Pierson backed Post up against the cage, Pierson scooped him up overhead and slammed him hard to the mat. This was the prelude to the finish, as from here Pierson moved to mount and pounded away mercilessly on Post until the referee finally called an end to the bout.

In undercard action, Ray Penny stopped Yan Pellerin (Pictures) with strikes at 3:33 of the opening round.

Sebastien Gauthier out-struck Bob Landry, finishing in just 63 seconds.

Daniel Boissonneault submitted Behrous Nemati by rear-naked choke at 2:26 of the first.

Stjepan Vujnovic armbarred Marco Picotte early.

Adam Kastner choked Tommy Pariseau by guillotine at 4:04 of round one.

Adrian Wooley defeated Sonny Leong (Pictures) via unanimous decision.
