Makhachev, 31, has rattled off 11 consecutive victories. The Khabib Nurmagomedov protégé last appeared at UFC 280, where he put away Charles Oliveira with an arm-triangle choke and laid claim to the undisputed lightweight championship in the second round of their Oct. 22 clash. Makhachev sports 15 finishes on his resume, 11 of them via submission.
Volkanovski, 34, enters the cage on the strength of a 22-fight winning streak. He last competed on July 2, when he completed his trilogy against Max Holloway with a five-round unanimous decision over the Hawaiian in the UFC 276 co-main event. Makhachev has 15 finishes to his credit, as well, 12 of them by knockout or technical knockout.
UFC 284 “Makhachev vs. Volkanovski” also features a welterweight tilt pairing Jack Della Maddalena (-350) with Randy Brown (+250), a heavyweight scrap pitting Justin Tafa (-130) against Parker Porter (even) and a light heavyweight affair matching Jimmy Crute (-190) with Alonzo Menifield (+155). Light heavyweights anchor the eight-fight undercard, where Tyson Pedro (-240) locks horns with Modestas Bukauskas (+190) at 205 pounds.
