Icon: “Mayhem” Miller Topples the Giant

HONOLULU, May 26 — In true David versus Goliath fashion, ICON Sport’s former middleweight champion Jason Miller submitted 6’ 7” 375-pound Stefan Gamlin (Pictures) just 46 seconds into the bout.

The fight started with “Mayhem” Miller keeping his distance, but that ended quickly as the fighters clinched and exchanged knees. “Mayhem” quickly dropped for Gamlin’s feet, trying to throw the big man off balance. But it was “Mayhem” who ended up trapped beneath the much larger man.

Gamlin threw heavy knees to Miller’s body, which had the crowd gasping. However, the middleweight’s quickness and skill allowed him to slip out from underneath Gamlin’s control.

Now it was Miller’s chance to return the favor, throwing a barrage of his own knees that forced the giant to roll to his back. “Mayhem” quickly took mount and it was only a matter of seconds before he secured an arm-triangle choke, causing Gamlin to tapout just 46 seconds into the first round.

Always the consummate showman, “Mayhem” was sure to flash a “shaka” and a huge grin to the crowd as he applied the choke.

In the co-main event, Anthony Torres, of The Ultimate Fighter fame, made his return to the ICON ring with an impressive first round stoppage over West Virginia wrestler Jerry Hackney.

The fight was slow in starting, but with just a minute left in the opening round Torres secured the mounted position and rained down punches. Torres connected solidly with two big blows that knocked Hackney unconscious.

PRIDE referee Yuji Shimada quickly stopped the bout, tackling Torres to the canvas with 48 seconds left on the clock.

Tyson Nam, rising star in the ICON 135-pound division, made a heart-warming return to fighting just months after his brother was shot to death outside of his home in Hawaii. Nam improved his record to 2-0, earning a unanimous decision over tough competitor Bill Dexter.

In heavyweight action, MMA journeyman Gary Myers took on ICON veteran Ray Seraille. Both fighters were aggressive and willing to trade blows on the feet, but it was Seraille who landed the better of the shots, sending Myers to the canvas with a series of knees and uppercuts from the clinch.

The night was also filled with an exciting under card, mostly showcasing local talent.
