Sherdog.com’s Guide to TUF 6

The second week of "The Ultimate Fighter 6" begins where we left off last week, as a dejected Joe Scarola deals with his loss against Mac Danzig (Pictures). While Serra's No. 1 pick sulks, Danzig heads right back into the gym and energizes Team Hughes. After their grueling workout, Hughes remarks that it's the best effort he's seen by a group since he's been coaching.

Back at the house, a crude bracket has been drawn on the wall. Troy Mandaloniz (Pictures) from Team Hughes pairs Danzig and Scarola together and then crosses out Scarola's name to show that he's been eliminated. Most of the guys like Scarola, though, and some think crossing him out is a bit harsh. Danzig proves that he isn't just a good guy on the mat when writes Scarola's name back on the wall.

Scarola is losing all interest in staying. He voices his feelings about wanting to leave the show. Danzig pulls him aside and tries to free him of his funk, telling him that he's a great guy and that the house needs him.

"There's some idiots running around this house," Danzig says. "Let's face it."

Later Scarola tells Serra about wanting to leave, and his coach is adamant that Scarola stay. Serra makes his student promise to stick by him and help coach the others. The team seems glad that Scarola stays, and he helps them with takedowns at practice.

Dana White explains that this season, the power to make the matches will alternate between teams instead of staying with the winning team. As a result Serra's squad will make the fight this week, which has Hughes' team antsy about who will be on the block.

Dorian Price (Pictures) is convinced that he'll be chosen, and it begins to eat at him. Soon he paces the floor and mumbles about how it's going to be him. His teammates are shocked at how paranoid he acts. Back in the gym, the teams are brought together for the selection, and Price is like a caged animal.

He tells the camera that he doesn't care who his opponent is: "Give me all of them motherf-------, for real, ‘cause I'm out of my mind."

Sure enough he is chosen, but his opponent is not who he thought. Matt "No Regard" Arroyo's name is called. Arroyo takes the time to use his nickname in his threat to Price: "Dorian, when that cage door closes, I'm going to have no regard for you."

Nicely done.

Back to training for Team Hughes. When the boys arrive in the gym they find Hughes leaning on a stack of bibles. He hands them out, tells his team to read the Book of Esther and tell him which biblical character reminds them of him.

There's no separation between church and cutting weight with this coach. The team sets off to read the good book, except for Mac Danzig (Pictures), who lies down for a nap. Hughes doesn't force his guys to read, but let's just say it's strongly encouraged. Of course these guys are pugilists, not theologians, and none of them figure out who Hughes was supposed to be.

While Blake Bowman says he found nothing in the book about farmers who pick up people and slam them to the ground, Hughes reveals that he would be the queen in the story because he likes to help people, adding that if he wasn't fighting, he could be working at a nursing home.

Sure Matt. I'm sure the euthanasia section of Golden Heights Retirement Community would love to get you in a smock and those white SAS shoes that only nurses and cafeteria ladies wear.

Serra's reaction to Hughes' bible study? "He's trying to turn everyone into Christians! Holy s---!"

Back at the house, Scarola whines about home again. He talks about missing his girlfriend and then confides in his buddies -- and the national television camera in front of him -- that he's worried about her cheating on him while he's gone.

Not that I'd know, but if you're worried about your girl when you're out of town, you might as well worry when she's across the street. He wishes that he could get at least one phone call, like that would fix anything. Five minutes after hearing your girl purr over the phone while you're stuck in a house full of dudes would have anyone racing home.

Serra discovers that Scarola is begging for a phone call home and heads over to the house to "deal with a b----." He confronts Scarola, who assures him again that he wants to stay.

Eventually I think Scarola will make the same mistake as previous fighters who have bailed from the house. Good luck keeping fans or getting a second chance that doesn't involve you being the heel at small shows in the South.

Finally it's fight time. We have a matchup between Matt Arroyo, a jiu-jitsu stylist, and a tall Dorian Price (Pictures), whose game is mainly Muay Thai. Hughes is supremely confident in his boy Price, and after an early knee catches Arroyo in the face, he could be right.

Arroyo says later he saw stars after the knee, but he battles back and takes Price down. After a downward punch misses, he passes Price's guard. Then it's just a matter of time before Arroyo mounts, brings down some heavy elbows and boxes Price's ears. Price is forced to roll over, give up his neck and tap to a rear-naked choke.

Serra's team has evened the competition, 1-1. Arroyo proves to his coach that he's got the goods.

TUF fans make sure to read "Song of Solomon" this week, and we'll discuss it next week. No snickering during the juicy parts!
