Sherdog.com’s Guide to the “Ultimate Fighter”

If you’re like me, family comes first.

It wouldn’t matter if you had deadlines to meet. You might have a paper due at school the next morning or maybe it will cost you large sums of money.

It doesn’t matter, when your family needs you, you are there for them.

I’m glad we have this understanding because tonight the Dallas Cowboys played on Monday Night Football. The Dallas Cowboys are my family. My family needed me. So I watched them and my TUF viewing suffered greatly.

Or did it?

I flipped over to Spike just in time to catch some of the guys wrestling in the Octagon. They were trying to pull each other’s socks off. Then I saw some foot tickling.

I switched back over to the game and pretended I didn’t see that. I squeezed my eyes shut and when I opened them, the Burger King intercepted a lateral and helped me mentally distance myself from that tickle party.

Dallas scores on a flea-flicker and I got nothing to complain about. I make a sandwich and hit up Spike again only to see Rich Franklin (Pictures)’s team showing up to work out in white underwear. One of the guys mentions that he had to borrow a teammate’s Underoos.

Suddenly I think I hear a member of my family calling me.

I turn the channel and completely lose all previous guilt for not paying attention to the show. There is no way I’m really missing anything if tickling and panty raids are the order of the day.

I did make sure to watch the fight though because I’ve been waiting all summer to see the heavyweights come in and throw down.

I’m still waiting.

Rashad Evans (Pictures) gets chosen to take on Tom Murphy. Tom’s knee is in bad shape so his game plan is to take the fight to the ground and work his submissions. Evans wants to keep it on the feet and both of these scenarios came into play.

Murphy spent the whole fight looking uncomfortable and it was clear that his knee was a problem. Murphy’s a big strong guy but he never used any of his strength since he had to favor the bum knee.

Evans was the aggressor during all three rounds but he never put together a string of punishment to put Murphy away.

Evans wins a one-sided fight but he wasn't very dominant, he just actually tried more.

It was a frustrating fight because most of the time they are just feeling each other out without making any move. When they did start mixing it up they would stop and stall. This is the first time in the Octagon for these guys and I’m sure the added pressure can make for poor performances.

The only problem is that there isn’t much in-house drama with this crop of contestants and that makes for boring television. That leaves us with only the fights to keep us entertained and so far only Joe Stevenson (Pictures) has put on a real show.

Next week we are back on track and hopefully we’ll see some good brawling as the next-week-on-the-Ultimate-Fighter clips have promised. I’ll provide more in-depth analysis since those jerk Cowboys lost.
