Floyd Mayweather Jr. has been one of the world’s premier boxers for more than two decades, his name never far from the pound-for-pound discussion. Backed by perfect 49-0 record, the five-division champion has little left to prove inside the squared circle.
Nevertheless, Mayweather will come out of retirement to face reigning Ultimate Fighting Championship lightweight titleholder Conor McGregor in a first-of-its-kind super fight on Aug. 26 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Scheduled for 12 rounds, the bout will be contested at 154 pounds. McGregor, who has emerged as the biggest star in mixed martial arts, has never competed as a professional boxer. However, the Irishman holds a 21-3 record in MMA, having become the first simultaneous two-division champion in UFC history.
