UFC Portland: By the Numbers

If only John Lineker could make weight.

The heavy-handed Brazilian garnered arguably the most significant victory of his career on Saturday night, as he captured a split-decision triumph over two-time flyweight title challenger John Dodson in the UFC Fight Night Portland headliner.

While Dodson frustrated his Brazilian opponent with his speed and movement, “Hands of Stone” was able track down the Jackson-Wink MMA representative consistently enough to land some of his patented powerful hooks. The victory was marred, of course, by Lineker’s performance one day prior on the scales, as he missed weight for the fifth time in his UFC career. Here are the rest of the facts and figures from UFC Fight Night 96 “Lineker vs. Dodson,” with statistics courtesy of FightMetric.com.

15: Unofficial media scorecards, of the 22 tracked by MMADecisions.com, that awarded the fight to Lineker, who won via split decision. Seven others, meanwhile, scored it for Dodson.

6: Consecutive triumphs for Lineker, who has also bested Michael McDonald, Rob Font, Francisco River, Ian McCall and Alptekin Ozkilic during his current winning streak.

101: Significant strikes landed by Dodson. Lineker, meanwhile, landed 93. Dodson outlanded his foe 15 to 9 in round one, 15 to 14 in round three and 34 to 27 in round five. Lineker, meanwhile, outlanded Dodson 16 to 15 in round two and 27 to 22 in round four.

.570: Significant striking accuracy for Dodson, who landed 101 of 191 attempts. Lineker, meanwhile, landed 93 of 322 significant strike attempts, a 28 percent clip.

55: Significant head strikes for Dodson. Lineker, meanwhile, landed 47.

35: Significant body strikes for Linker. Dodson landed 26.

32: Significant strikes by which Alex Oliveira outlanded Will Brooks in their lightweight bout. Of the 48 significant strikes landed by the Brazilian “Cowboy,” 28 occurred in the clinch and 12 were on the ground. Oliveira won via TKO due to ground-and-pound 3:30 into round three. Brooks appeared to suffer a rib injury during the bout.

4: Takedowns apiece landed by Oliveira and Brooks. Oliveira, who missed weight by 5.5 pounds on Friday, landed 4 of 10 attempts, while Brooks went 4-for-8.

1-5: Record for Joshua Burkman since returning for a second UFC stint in 2015. On Saturday, “The People’s Warrior” dropped a split decision to short-notice foe Zak Ottow in a featured welterweight contest. Burkman’s only victory during that stretch came against K.J. Noons at UFC Fight Night “Hendricks vs. Thompson” on Feb. 6.

9: Career submission victories for “TUF 24” cast member Brandon Moreno following his first-round tapout of Louis Smolka. However, Saturday marked first guillotine choke victory for the Mexican flyweight.

1: True submission victory in 12 professional appearances for Luis Henrique da Silva. The Brazilian known as “Frankenstein” earned his first tapout in his second Octagon appearance, submitting Joachim Christensen with an armbar 4:43 into the second round of their light heavyweight encounter. Da Silva earned a submission victory via punches on the Brazilian circuit in 2014.

9: Takedowns defended in 13 attempts by Andre Fili in a three-round verdict over Hacran Dias at featherweight. The Team Alpha Male member also escaped a submission attempt in the second stanza.

20: Significant strikes by which Fili outlanded Dias. “Touchy” also held a 72-to-46 edge in total strikes landed.

13: UFC wins at middleweight for Nate Marquardt following his second-round knockout of Tamdan McCrory. That ties him with Yushin Okami and Anderson Silva for No. 2 in promotion history. Reigning champ Michael Bisping is first with 15 triumphs.

9: Finishes at 185 pounds for Marquardt, tying him with Chris Leben for second most all-time in the division. Anderson Silva is No. 1 with 11 middleweight finishes.

3: KO/TKO victories in Portland for Marquardt. In addition to McCrory, the Grudge Training Center product has also knocked out Demian Maia (UFC 102) and Tyron Woodley (Strikeforce “Rockhold vs. Kennedy”) in “The City of Roses.”

59: Significant strikes by which Ion Cutelaba outlanded Jonathan Wilson in their preliminary light heavyweight duel. The 22-year-old outlanded his foe 29 to 10 in round one, 36 to 12 in round two and 24 to 8 in round three en route to a unanimous decision win.

36: Significant ground strikes landed by Curtis Blaydes in his second-round technical knockout victory over Cody East at heavyweight. Blaydes, who landed 13 significant ground strikes in round one and 23 in round two, ended the contest with a barrage of elbows to the side of East’s head.

4: Takedowns landed in six attempts by Octagon newcomer Ketlen Vieira in a split-decision triumph against Kelly Faszholz. The Brazilian landed at least one takedown in each frame, offsetting a 113-to-67 edge in total strikes for Faszholz.
