Bellator 53 Broadcast Draws 103,000 Viewers on MTV2
Bellator
Fighting Championships earned a series-low 103,000 viewers for
its Saturday night broadcast of
Bellator 53 on MTV2, network officials confirmed on
Tuesday.
The viewership figure comes on the heels of a strong showing by the Chicago-based promotion: Bellator 52 earned the second-greatest viewership in the series’ history, drawing 269,000 pairs of eyes on Oct. 1.
Featuring the company’s fifth-season welterweight tournament
semifinals, Bellator 53 emanated from the Buffalo Run Hotel and
Casino in Miami, Okla.
Advancing to the tournament finals were Ben Saunders and Douglas Lima. Saunders used a stifling guard game to frustrate Luis Santos for most of their bout before gaining top control and finishing the fight with a keylock in the third frame. Conversely, Lima and Chris Lozano elected to keep their fight mostly standing before Lima turned out his foe’s lights in the second round with a crushing right hook.
The event also saw Thiago Santos earn a submission victory over Josh Burns in their heavyweight tournament alternate bout. “Big Monster” will now lock horns with Blagoi Ivanov in the semifinals, replacing an injured Mike Hayes.
Additionally, Ronnie Mann showed skills off his back in coaxing Kenny Foster into a fight-ending triangle choke late in the first round of their Season 6 featherweight tournament qualifier.
