Floyd Mayweather Pegged as Massive Favorite in Potential Boxing Match vs. Conor McGregor

A hypothetical fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Conor McGregor may be no closer to reality than it ever was, but that hasn’t stopped oddsmakers from speculating on the outcome.

According to odds recently released by Bovada, Mayweather would be a massive -2250 betting favorite in a potential boxing match against the Irish UFC star. McGregor, meanwhile, is listed at +900.

For those odds to be valid, the bout must take place in 2016 or 2017 and must be sanctioned by the Nevada Athletic Commission. Of course, those figures are likely to change, especially in the unlikely event that the bout is booked.

The Mayweather-McGregor rivalry recently found new life after “The Notorious” One claimed lightweight gold with a second-round knockout of Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205, making him the first simultaneous two-division champion in the promotion’s history. During his rise to stardom in the Octagon, McGregor has established himself as the UFC’s biggest draw and most powerful fighter.

Still, Mayweather seemed annoyed at any comparisons between himself and the Dublin native, pointing out that “an elephant don’t beef with ants.” Meanwhile, McGregor brashly declared that he would require $100 million to box the pound-for-pound king and that Mayweather was “afraid of a real fight” under MMA rules.

Mayweather retired from boxing following a unanimous decision triumph against Andre Berto on Sept. 12, 2015. “Money” exited the sport with a 49-0 career mark.

McGregor is planning to take some time off as he awaits the birth of his first child next year. The lightweight and featherweight champion has hinted that he is seeking a stake in UFC ownership before he returns to the Octagon.
