Jon Jones Sends Public Condolence To Daniel Cormier After Father's Death
The rivalry between Jon Jones and
Daniel
Cormier is one of the most bitter of its kind in the history of
combat sports, but notwithstanding the long animosity between the
two all-time greats, some moments apparently call for a temporary
truce.
Over the weekend, and only a week removed from losing his Ultimate Fighting Championship heavyweight title to Stipe Miocic, Cormier announced that his stepfather had passed away after a battle with cancer. Calling him a “hero,” Cormier talked about the impact his stepfather had had on his life and the lessons he taught him, which he said he would pass onto his own children.
Shortly thereafter, UFC light heavyweight champion Jones took to Twitter to offer his condolences to his two-time foe.
“All beef aside, I’m really sorry about your loss DC. Know that he’s in heaven with the opportunity to watch you front row and center for the rest of your life. Continue living a life that makes him proud. Thoughts go out to you and your family today.”
The olive branch from Jones is reminiscent of a similar gesture from Cormier, who reached out via Twitter when Jones’ mother passed away in 2017. Cormier’s fighting future is still undecided after the former champion stated in a post-fight interview after his loss to Miocic that he would be sitting down with his wife to discuss his next steps.
