Liddell Seeks $350,000 in MMA Authentics Suit

Former light heavyweight champion Chuck
Liddell is suing MMA Authentics for $350,000 for the alleged
misuse of his image. The lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles Superior
Court in June, had been nondescript in regards to damages up until
Saturday, when TMZ first reported the figure.
MMA Authentics is a clothing and merchandising company to which “The Iceman” had licensed his image in 2007 under two provisions. First, the production of all Liddell-related products was to be limited to clothing and headwear. Second, all products were supposed to be approved by Liddell in advance to their retail release.
According to Liddell, he discovered in August 2008 that MMA Authentics was selling several “novelty items” that not only did not fall under the “clothing and headgear” banner but were not approved by the UFC hall of famer before they hit shelves. This is not the first time that MMA Authentics has been sued by a fighter. In 2008, former two-division Pride Fighting Championships titleholder Dan Henderson filed a suit against the company regarding merchandising and sponsorship issues.
Liddell captured the UFC light heavyweight title at UFC 52 in 2005, as he knocked out fellow hall of famer Randy Couture in the first round. “The Iceman” defended the title five times over the next two years, losing his last defense to Quinton “Rampage” Jackson in a rematch of their Pride middleweight grand prix semi-final fight in 2003.
MMA Authentics has yet to release a statement regarding the matter.
