Marcos Galvao-Ed West Bantamweight Quarterfinal Slated for Bellator 65
Ed West will meet Marcos Galvao in a bantamweight tournament quarterfinal matchup at Bellator 65 on April 13.
Sherdog.com confirmed the news with sources close to the contest on Friday. While earlier reports indicated that West might face the Brazilian one week earlier at Bellator 64 in Canada, the showdown is now slated to take place at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J. MMADieHards.com first reported the pairing.
Headlined by a bantamweight championship confrontation pitting reigning kingpin Zach Makovsky against Season 5 tournament winner Eduardo Dantas, Bellator 65 will air on MTV2 and Epix. Additionally, the show also features a welterweight showdown between former champion Lyman Good and LeVon Maynard, as well as the Bellator debut of UFC vet Kris McCray, who meets Ailton Barbosa.
West, 28, has won nine of his last 11 fights. The American debuted with Bellator during the Season 3 bantamweight tournament, outpointing Bryan Goldsby and Jose Vega before falling to Makovsky in the finals. The American returned to the Bellator cage last year, dropping a split decision to Dantas in the Season 5 semifinals after taking a unanimous nod over Luis Alberto Nogueira in the opening round.
A former Shooto 132-pound title contender, Galvao (Pictured) enters the cage one year older than his opponent. The Nova Uniao representative has suffered a pair of contentious decision defeats during his Bellator tenure, losing to reigning featherweight champion Joe Warren in a 137-pound catch-weight affair before coming up short in a split verdict against Alexis Vila in the Season 5 tournament semifinals. Galvao’s lone Bellator win came in the quarterfinals one month prior to the Vila loss, as the Brazilian edged WEC veteran Chase Beebe in a split decision.
