Former Brazilian Top Team training partners Rousimar Palhares and Alexandre Ferreira have reportedly agreed to meet at UFC Live 3 “Sanchez vs. Kampmann.”
The matchup was announced by Tatame on Saturday. According to the report, both fighters have agreed to the bout, but no contract has been signed. The event is rumored to take place in Louisville, Ky., at a to-be-named venue on March 3 and will reportedly feature a welterweight tilt between the resurgent Diego Sanchez and dangerous Dane Martin Kampmann.
Palhares comes off a knockout loss to top contender Nate Marquardt at UFC Fight Night in September. As the Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt attempted to apply one of his patented leg locks in the first round, Marquardt snaked his leg free and recovered his base. As Palhares looked to the referee, complaining that Marquardt had greased his legs, the Grudge Training Center product seized the opportunity and rained down a thunderous blow that led to the fight's finish. Marquardt was cleared of any wrongdoing after the fight. Prior to that matchup, the Brazilian had won three-straight fights in the Octagon.
In Ferreira, Palhares faces another powerfully-built Brazilian with an affinity for finishing fights. Of his 18 career victories “Cacareco” holds 17 by submission. Ferreira is fresh off his disappointing UFC debut against veteran Vladimir Matyushenko, where he fell by TKO in the first round. Prior to that defeat, the Chute Boxe product had won his last seven fights.
