According to the TMZ report, Jones allegedly ran his Bentley into a pole in Binghamton, N.Y., at approximately 5 a.m. ET. After being taken into custody by the Broome County Sheriff’s Department, Jones was reportedly bailed out by his mother a few hours later. The arrest marks the second UFC fighter to be taken into custody on suspicion of DUI in the last month, as featherweight Ross Pearson was arrested in Las Vegas approximately three weeks ago.
Jones, 24, is widely regarded as one of the top pound-for-pound talents in all of mixed martial arts. The UFC’s reigning 205-pound champion captured his title last year, demolishing Mauricio Rua at UFC 128. “Bones” would follow that performance with another stellar outing at UFC 135 last September, finishing Quinton Jackson with a rear-naked choke to retain his championship.
The Jackson’s MMA representative closed out the year with another submission win over another former champion in Lyoto Machida and most recently outpointed former training partner Rashad Evans at UFC 145 on April 21. Jones is expected to defend his title for the fourth time on Sept. 1 against former Strikeforce champion Dan Henderson at UFC 151 in Las Vegas.
