The UFC’s return to Cincinnati finally has a headliner, as Matt Brown will lock horns with Erick Silva on May 10.
Fox Sports first reported the news on Monday, and the matchup was subsequently confirmed by UFC officials. The event, which takes place at U.S. Bank Arena, will mark the Las Vegas-based promotion’s first trip to Cincinnati since 2007. The card also includes a featherweight bout pitting Nik Lentz against Manny Gamburyan.
After beginning his UFC career 5-5, Brown has won six straight fights inside the Octagon. During that tear, “The Immortal has knocked out Chris Cope, Luis Ramos, Mike Swick, Jordan Mein and Mike Pyle; only Stephen Thompson was able to go the distance against the 33-year-old Ohioan. Brown was supposed to face Carlos Condit at UFC on Fox 9 in December but had to withdraw after suffering two herniated discs in his lower back.
Silva has established himself as one the promotion’s most explosive welterweights, with each of his four Octagon victories coming inside of a round. Most recently, he knocked out Takenori Sato in 52 seconds at UFC Fight Night 36. The 29-year-old Brazilian has faltered against top competition, however, dropping bouts to Jon Fitch and Dong Hyun Kim within the last two years.
