(PRESS RELEASE) -- Salt Lake City, UT -- Showdown Fights -- The
Pete Suazo Utah Athletic Commission reviewed today the September
28th 2013 Showdown Fights bout between Eric Smith
(6-1-1) and Jan
Jorgensen (5-0-1). The contest result was overturned from a win
via TKO for Smith to a "No Contest as the result of an
unintentional eye poke" After a review of the video it was
determined by commission members, that the bout ended as the result
of a foul, which is defined in the ABC Unified Rules.
Section: "Injury sustained during competition" (f.) If an injury sustained during competition as a result of an accidental foul is severe enough for the referee to stop the bout immediately, the bout shall result in a no contest if stopped before two rounds have been completed in a 3 round contest.
Jorgensen stated, “Lets do it again to find out who is the better fighter” and Smith was not immediately available for comment.
