‘The Messenger’ Hill shipped in for Prestige FC 1
Oct 17, 2015 Comments
(PRESS RELEASE) -- The Prestige FC 1: Atonement lineup has been
altered due to injury, but the fighter coming onboard is one of
Canada’s best and most-popular competitors.
Michael Hill (8-4) moves up to middleweight and slides into a showdown with Mariusz Ksiazkiewicz (4-0) – a matchup that is now a featured fight on the main card of the Prestige FC 1 taking place on Saturday, October 24th at Crescent Point Place in Weyburn, Saskatchewan (pending final approval from Athletics Commission of Saskatchewan).
Hill moves into the spot vacated by Jordan
McKay who has been sidelined due to a knee injury suffered in
training. “We are absolutely thrilled that Michael stepped up on
short notice when so many other fighters wouldn’t do it,” said Cord
Crowthers, CEO & Matchmaker for Prestige FC.
“Michael is very highly regarded, he is a big name from The Ultimate Fighter, and he’s one of the most exciting fighters in all of Canada. And credit should also go to Mariusz too, for agreeing to fight Michael. Both guys want to prove themselves – Mariusz as a top-flight prospect and Michael as an elite competitor. That’s the kind of fight we like and I know our fans are going to love this fight.”
Hill advanced to the semifinals of The Ultimate Fighter’s 16th edition where he was coached by UFC heavyweight fan-favorite Roy Nelson. The 28-year-old was Nelson’s second-overall pick for his team after earning a KO victory during the preliminary round. Hill would go on to win in the quarter-finals of the series before losing out in the semifinal round.
Ksiazkiewicz will be out for a fifth straight win and a third consecutive finish as he is coming off back-to-back submission victories. The 26-year-old Winnipeg, Manitoba, product has been eyeing a stiff test which is why he readily accepted a revamped bout against Hill.
Prestige FC 1: Atonement is headlined by three-time UFC competitor Mike “Biggie” Rhodes taking on Taki Uluilakepa in the main event with a co-main event of featherweights Daniel “Agent Orange” Swain battling Kurt “The Hurt” Southern. Also topping the bill is world-ranked female lightweight Charmaine “Not So Sweet” Tweet squaring off against arch-rival Anna “Smiles” Barone.
