Brandon Royval: Following a Blueprint

Sign up for ESPN+ right here, and you can then stream UFC 253 live on your smart TV, computer, phone, tablet or streaming device via the ESPN app.

At UFC 253, No. 10-ranked Ultimate Fighting Championship flyweight Brandon Royval has another tough task in front him. In his second foray into the Octagon, he will take on No. 7-ranked Kai Kara France, a fighter who has tasted defeat only once in his last 10 bouts. However, "Raw Dawg" believes that one loss -- at UFC 245 to Brandon Moreno -- offers a how-to guide on making life difficult for Kara France.

"I feel like a lot of what I'm going to do is a little bit based on what Brandon Moreno did. I'm a southpaw and he's a righty, but there's stuff I can copy and just gain a little information from. I know Kai's made adjustments. He's a great fighter from a great camp. Of course, he's going to make adjustments, [but] there's a lot I can take away from [the Moreno fight], or even the Tyson Nam fight. He's been in the UFC for a minute, and there's a lot of film on him, and I can study it. It was a good fight, but [Moreno] did a lot of good things that maybe I can capitalize on. I'm really grateful I can go back and watch that fight and study some things."

Along with breaking down his pivotal Sept. 26 matchup on Yas Island, Royval talked about the whirlwind that was his UFC debut and training full-time following since his win in May.
