Callum Ellenor’s Window of Opportunity to Stardom
Bellator Milan’s bantamweight headliner between James Gallagher and Callum Ellenor is a fight that has taken nearly 13-months to unfold. This latest booking is the promotion’s fourth straight attempt at getting these two into the cage, and their efforts have given Ellenor a belief that Bellator MMA may view him in a similar light as their heavily marketed Irish star. Or at the very least, that the promotion sees potential for a new star from the United Kingdom if he’s victorious on Oct. 3.
“Obviously, they’ve put a lot of time of promotion into James [and] he’s a big name for a reason. But I just feel like if they weren’t invested in me, and wanted to promote me, and didn’t see a window of opportunity for me they would have just gotten somebody else [as a new opponent],” Ellenor told Sherdog. “It’s the fourth time now. There’s so many variables, but I just feel like there’s a massive window for if I win this fight, to create a new star. Especially from my region [of England]. I’ve got a big following out here now, and it’s getting bigger and bigger every time stuff gets announced. And I feel like with a win here, get a little push behind us, the sky’s the limit.”
In his conversation with Sherdog, Ellenor spoke about trying to stay COVID-19 free as Europe endures new outbreaks on the continent and how he has evolved as a fighter since making his Bellator debut 19-months ago. The Englishmen also went in-depth on preparing for Strabanimal’s skills on the mat, and explained why he feels his striking skills are being over looked by his opponent.
