Despite a year most will want to forget, 2020 was a breakthrough period in the career of Legacy Fighting Alliance welterweight Maycon Mendonca. He won all three of his bouts and scored the division’s title belt in a fight that won the promotion’s “fight of the year” award. Now, after eight fights in the organization, the 28-year-old believes his run in the LFA has come to an end. And he hopes to compete next in the same place a plethora of LFA champions have gone before him.
“UFC man, UFC,” Mendonca told Sherdog with a smile. “I’m talking to my manager now [and] I’m so excited for my future. I want to fight soon. February, March, I’m ready. I think it’s the time for change. I did a lot of work for this situation right now. I think my next step is going to be outside LFA. But let’s see.”
In his chat with Sherdog, the Brazilian spoke about the fight that was also a nominee for our own “fight of the year” honor. In addition, he explained the evolution of going from a three-fight losing skid to becoming a dominant force over five straight wins.
