The Coronavirus Chronicles: Louis Taylor

Professional Fighters League Season 1 middleweight champion Louis Taylor has been inactive for nearly 16-months. He was removed from his Season 2 debut—at welterweight no less—after falling short of certain New York State Athletic Commission requirements, and has not competed since. In his mind, he is still on good terms with the league, and is open to a variety of scenarios for a return to their cage.

“We have a working relationship. A very good relationship. They floated some things past me [like] maybe doing some champ versus champ type of fights. You know how it goes. You can’t really get excited about anything until it’s on contract. The way this season is going, they’re not going to be able to push a full season, so maybe they just do some one-offs. Who knows? They’ve got a lot of people I would like to fight. I would like to fight the best. The current 205 [pound champion], the 170 [pound champion]. We can meet at certain weight classes.”

Along with talking about possible catch-weight special attraction fights, Taylor also elaborated on the possibility of competing at light heavyweight in the PFL, and explains why that hasn’t happened yet. He also speaks on the reason for his removal from the league last year, managing his finances through his unplanned hiatus and coming close to having bouts with Russian promotion RCC in the last few months. The Chicago native also spoke on the coronavirus situation in the city, and how his family have kept safe and busy in that time.
