Joseph ‘Jo Jo’ Diaz to Headline Estrella TV Card Against Ruben Tamayo
The Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in California will be the site of
the next edition of Estrella TV’s Boxeo Estelar card, which will be
headlined by an intriguing featherweight matchup between Joseph “Jo
Jo” Diaz and Ruben Tamayo.
The co-feature of the night will see Frankie Gomez (18-0, 13 KOs) taking on Jorge Silva (19-9-2, 15 KOs) in a 10-round welterweight bout.
The prelims on RingTV will have Paul Ritter (0-1) fighting Relanzo
Richard Jr. (debut) in a four-round heavyweight battle; Alberto
Fundora (5-0, 2 KOs) taking on Richard Romero (1-0); KeAndre Gibson
(13-0, 5 KOs) in an eight-round super lightweight contest against
Freddy Lopez (10-2, 7 KOs); Marco Magdaleno with duel fellow
debutant Phillip Bounds; and in the four-round welterweight opener,
Melsik Baghdasaryan (2-0, 1 KO) takes on Diego Padilla (1-1).
Diaz (17-0, 10 KOs) is ready to take the next step in his career to where he’ll fight much stiffer competition. He’s looked terrific up to this point, with his last bout coming in July where he dominated veteran Rene Alvarado over 10 rounds.
Standing in his way is Tamayo (25-6-4, 17 KOs), who once fought for the “interim” WBA featherweight title. He lost that bout to Jesus Cuellar via fifth round stoppage and then dropped his next bout, which came courtesy of a 10-round decision to Oscar Valdez in June.
The main card of the event will be televised live on Estrella TV beginning at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT. The preliminary card will be streamed on ringtvlive.com at 8:30 p.m. ET/5:30 p.m. PT.
