PBC on FS1: Washington, Mansour fight to a Draw

Rising heavyweight prospect Gerald Washington dodged a bullet in the main event of Premier Boxing Champions’ latest edition of Toe-To-Toe Tuesdays on Fox Sports 1 as he fought to a disputed draw against 42-year old Amir Mansour at the Little Creek Casino in Shelton, Wash.

Washington (16-0-1, 11 KOs) controlled the fight in the early goings behind his long reach and jab. The much shorter Mansour had extreme difficulty in getting inside and was relegated to chasing after the San Jose-based fighter. As the early rounds wore away, it appeared as though Washington was going to coast to an easy, lopsided unanimous decision.

But at the midway point of the 10-round fight, Mansour increased his punch output, digging most of his shots to the body. Washington’s pace slowed and the volume of his punches diminished greatly, allowing the New Jersey brawler back into the tussle.

Mansour (22-1-1, 16 KOs) won the majority of the second half of the fight and though he couldn’t cap off his comeback with a knockdown – or a knockout – most observers felt he had done enough down the stretch to win the battle. However, only one of the three ringside judges saw it in his favor 96-94. That tally was offset by a 97-93 score in favor of Washington and a 95-95 score on the last

“I knew I wasn’t getting the decision,” Mansour said after the fight. I’m actually surprised they gave me the draw. This is boxing. You’re supposed to get in there and rumble, not run.”

Washington felt otherwise.

“Terrible. I definitely won,” a disgusted Washington said. “I definitely won the fight. I won the first four rounds for sure and then rested up in the middle. He wasn’t even touching me at all. I was landing all the good shots.

“Look at his face. Look at his ear,” he continued. “I boxed him smart.”

Former U.S. Olympian Michael Hunter continued his rise through the heavyweight ranks with a bludgeoning of the grossly overmatched Canadian Jason Douglas. Hunter improved to 10-9 by getting his seventh career knockout when the ringside physician advised referee Jack Reiss to call the fight after the fourth.

Hunter scored one knockdown apiece in the second, third and fourth rounds, and when the fourth was completed, the battered and exhausted Douglas (11-6, 4 KOs) was in no shape to continue and that’s when the doctor stepped in.

In a light heavyweight special attraction, young prospect Ahmed Elbiali was able to keep his unblemished record intact with an easy unanimous decision win over Mariano Hilario. Elbiali (13-0, 11 KOs) dominated Hilario from the start and won virtually every minute of every round. In the end, he was too aggressive and won via tallies of 80-71 (twice) and 78-73. Hilario (12-4, 5 KOs) has a point deducted in the sixth for repeated holding.
