Showtime Boxing Weigh-in Results: Broner, Allakhverdiev on Target
Former multiple-division world champion Adrien Broner claimed that
he has changed up many elements of his life inside and out of the
ring, and that he is determined to get back to when he was
considered among the sport’s brightest stars.
His first step is getting past little-known Khabib Allakhverdiev in the main event of a Showtime-televised boxing card Saturday night in the U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati. But Broner can’t do anything until he made the junior welterweight limit during Friday afternoon’s weigh-ins, which he did rather easily.
After Allakhverdiev (19-1, 9 KOs) climbed aboard the scale and nailed it at 139 pounds, Broner (30-2, 22 KOs) did him one better by coming in at 138.5. The two will clash for the vacant WBA 140-pound crown over 12 scheduled rounds.
The co-featured bout between Jose Pedraza and veteran Edner Cherry was also made official as both combatants made weight ahead of their duel, which is for Pedraza’s IBF junior lightweight title. Challenger Cherry (34-6-2, 19 KOs) clocked in at a cool 129 pounds. Pedraza (20-0, 12 KOs) weighed in 129 pounds a well, setting the stage for what should be an intriguing battle.
